BE ADVISED FELLOW VFR PEOPLE. RECENT FIASCO ON WAY TO LAGUNA. 01 VFR HAD PROBLEMS THAT MIMICKED RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHILE BIKE WAS ABOVE 200 DEGREES WITH FAN RUNNING, (FI) ON . BIKE WOULD TURN OVER BUT WOULD NOT RUN UNTILL COOLER (170). I PICKED UP A BATTERY WITH A PARTIAL CHARGE TO NURSE BIKE HOME. ORDERED NEW VOLTAGE R/R BASED ON REPUTATION ( ORIGINAL WAS REACHING 165 F ). INSTALLED NEW R/R WITH 27 CFM FAN@.2 AMPS WITH HEAT SINK TEMP NOT EXCEEDING 90F, BUT MY PROBLEMS CONTINUED AS THE BIKE REACHED RUNNING TEMP. I MONITORED BATTERY VOLTAGE AS THE TEMP APPROACHED 200 AND I MANIPULATED DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS OF ELECTRICAL LOADS ie: HI BEAMS, BRAKE LIGHT , BLINKERS, RADIATOR FAN. WITH EVERYTHING ON, MY TROUBLES COINCIDED WITH THE BLINKER RYTHEM THEN SHUT DOWN WITH THE RUNNING OF THE RAD FAN. REPLACED BATTERY AGAIN, THIS TIME --FULLY CHARGED-- AND MY PROBLEMS HAVE DISAPPEARED. THE EMC APPEARS TO NOT BE ABLE TO TOLERATE >12.3 VDC. THE LESSONO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF A FRESH/FULLY CHARGED BATTERY, GET A SPARE R/R FOR TRIPS(IT TOOK 10 DAYS FROM HONDA).
