Thanks for a reasonable explanation and resolution

Been there, done that. Still a fascinating saga! Wish it could have gone on longer!
Thanks for explaining so well, Bud. Gave me another good lesson in dealing with shops.
It is very rare that people admit that both parties could have been at fault.
    Communication is the key, people!

+1 to doing the work yourself; much more satisfying.

    And a big +1 to gear-driven camshafts!

It sounds like about 500$ of your shop bill went to training the techs. Also sounds like the dealership in question has a lack of communication problem from the service desk to the workbench...and that's the nicest thing I can say about that establishment.

If I were you I'd be pi$$ed...and I can relate to your frustration. Almost makes me ashamed to admit what I do for a living. However...I also know there are many very proficient dealers and very sharp techs out there...and this whole debacle could have turned out very different.

I haven't had any experience with third-party warranties, but I'm told they are available at a reasonable cost (whatever that is). Others on this forum would know better than I. But if so, it might be worth looking into in case your baby breaks a piston and tears itself up.

All I can say is ouch. Hopefully you never have another problem with your bike because you certainly have paid enough. I feel your pain. I think I would have been sick right on their parts counter when they gave that price. Man, I wish I knew some good advice to give you. I think that a member started a thread a while back discussing various shops so that people could research them before they take a bike in. Perhaps you could summarize your deal there.

Anyone remember a message thread about different dealers?
