I bought a '01 VFR800 about two and a half hours ago... a friend paid and got the title from the owner, who lives about 30 miles away, so I won't actually get the DMV stuff done and pick it up until next week.

Which is fine, it's a tad chilly out.

I'm psyched... the last bike I owned was a Kawasaki 750 two-stroke (it had about a third as many moving parts as the VFR) and I've always liked the V4 as a matter of principle.

    Wish me luck!

I live in, of all places, NY, NY. The home of $200 monthly parking.

I've clearly lost my mind, however motorcycles, if I recall correctly, are more entertaining than subways.

Sadly, no, I'm just I'm delusional. I live on West 72nd. St., Manhattan.

There's a garage on Harrison St., sort of under the BMCC arcology, that claims to offer $160/Mo parking (plus 18,000,000% tax). I work a few blocks from there and it's a fairly easy subway ride so I'm shooting for that. I have a friend in the Far North (near Harriman State Park) that'll let me park over the winter, so hopefully I won't sustain too many losses due to city inhabitation.

Sadly, I can share far too many stories of the perils of city inhabitance. Seems the safest place is on the sidewalk... :ninja:

Coolio....do you live in Manhattan? I know that you have to bolt down your bike if you want it to be there when you come back to it.

WTF? $200 a month for parking?. They just passed a law in Sydney that says if you ride a bike you get free parking. And mosts appartments come with theit own off street parking. I'm starting to think we're lucky

You can pay $1200 / month to park an SUV around Central Park...

$300 for a motorcycle, if you can find a garage that will take it.

Parking rates - check the East 70's for an SUV

I think it's a function of population density; where I live the apartments are from about 15 to 30+ stories tall, and land is too valuable for parking... the newer buildings have parking in the basement.

I couldn't agree more. I always ride my motorcycle on the sidewalk. :)

there are WAY less cars on the sidewalk...

I think you should ask your work if you can park your bike in the building's lobby.

If I had to pay athat much to park, I would want someone standing over the bike with an umbrella all day.

welcome to the Forum, im in RI, so if hell ever freezes over and we have a northeast VFR meet, I will see ya there!

Congrats and welcome aboard. If you make any trips west with that new ride, drop me a line. I'm due west of NYC.

$200 isn't "that bad". I commuted into NYC for about 14 years, and don't think I ever found a place less than about $350 a month (for a car). Nowadays, because I drive a "big" pick-up truck (stock Ram 1500 with 20's), they won't even LET me park inside (its too high and will hit the sprinkler heads), and to park it in an outside lot, I usually have to grease the palms of the attendant another $20 to $50. And that's only for a few hours! So between tolls into the city, parking, and being raped, its easily $60 a day, not including gas.

$200 a month? I say sweet. Good deal.

And hitting a pedestrian is usually far less damaging to bike and body than hitting a deer! How's that for a glass half full?
