My bike stopped working!!!! Lights out!

    I had been riding my bike for about an hour, nothing unusual. About 30 minutes ago, I was coming home from a quick freeway trip. I turned into the gas station, and as I down shift during the turn (I know, I shouldn't) the dash lights go out and the motor quits, as if I hit the kill switch. My LED boogey lights are wired directly to the battery, and they are still on, so its not a battery issue.

    I take stop, park the bike, and take the key out. I wait a minute. I put the key back in to start the bike, and nothing. No dash lights, no noise, nothing.

    I am assuming my RR has gone out, but it could also be a fuse on either my bike alarm or the bike itself.

    The bike alarm is not the issue, as it has been disarmed for a couple months now. Its not doing anything.

    Any thoughts? I am going to check the fuse tomorrow, but I need some other thoughts for when i get over there.

    Check the kill switch. It's finicky in colder weather.


    Also, just because you're power sipping LED's still light, does not mean the battery is still good.


    The r/r would be the first place I'd start after the kill switch, fuses, and battery voltage.

    well, it was a fuse. It was buried behind the battery, behind the fuse block. It was a 30amp. I replaced and started the bike and it was fine. But i need to figure out what caused the fuse to blow. I get a parts fiche and show you where i am talking about.

    Looks like there's two 30 fuses. I'm looking at the wiring diagram right now. Is it the one that's part of the starter relay or the separate red/white wire fuse holder?

    part of the starter relay. But why would that blow mid-turn?

    I'd say either water shorting it out or a damaged wire somewhere.

    Is it possible your thumb hit the starter button mid turn? I don't think that would cause a fuse to blow though would it?

    The other fuse is for the R/R...so it looks like that's not it. Might not hurt to check the couplers to see if they've been subject to any sign of melting, or heat discoloration.

    The fused wire out of the starter relay...Red...supplies power directly up to the fuse box. Turn your handlebars back and forth and wiggle the harnesses around the steering head, they can chafe there as they are required to move. If you have any accessories on that main power circuit, they're suspect. The starter relay itself could be the culprit, uplug it and check the plastic locking coupler for melting. Wish I could think of more but I can't take my eyes off your avatar.

    The only accessories I have are my LED lights, and they are connected only to the battery.

    The wiring for the alarm is probably the suspect. I am tracing them now.

    And the fuse that blew is the main fuse (A) that is part of the starter relay switch, 30amp:
