    Hi Folks,

I'm new to the forum and would like some opinions. I am looking at a used 2006, 6000 miles, perfect condition, non ABS. I read in the past that the VTEC implementation on the VFR left a lot to be desired, but I assume that the later models might refine the problems out.

What is your opinion of the VTEC on the 2006 model.

Is there anything else that I should know about this bike before I purchase it?

    Thanks

Honda adjusted the VTEC engagement and disengagement points for the '06 and up model to smooth the transition out. VTEC opinions get exaggerated in both directions. It's not nearly the devil some make it out to be nor is it the greatest technology ever placed in a bike. In a perfect world I'd take a 6th gen VFR w/o the VTEC to be honest, but that's not possible and I have absoultely no regrets owning mine. I don't even think about or hardly notice the VTEC anymore, just a change in exhaust tone.

    I'd say buy it.

As Kevin_70 said, it isn't the big issue it's made out to be. Cars with 4bbl carbs and turbos give a lot more kick in the pants than VTEC does on a VFR yet nobody complains about them. Personally I like it, I don't think it's anything to get overjoyed or upset about when it engages, and (supposedly) it makes everything run better at lower RPM's so I'll keep it and be happy.

The V Tec transition on my '06 is quite noticeable. If I'm not squeazing the tank with my thighs when it engages it feels like the bike moves out from underneath me a inch or two.

I don't consider this to be a negative attribute however. If the transition is said to be smoothed out in the '06's and latter models, I can't imagine how it feels on a slightly older 6th gen.
