Yesterday I was riding down I-95 and my bike just shut off. I've got a 91 VFR 750F and hadn't had a problem with it before. I took off my seat and check the fuses and they were fine, the only thing is the battery seemed to be completely dead. So I replaced the battery and i got the lights to come on, but no ignition.......nothing when i pressed the start button....any ideas?

Did it give any indication it was going to stop running? When you hit the start button the engine does not even turn over? No click? I presume the battery is fully charged?

There is a main 30 amp fues in the starter relay (according to the service manual). Did you check that fuse also?
Here are some othe possible causes:
    Neutral switch is faulty
    clutch switch diode is faulty
    clutch switch is faulty
    side stand switchis faulty
loose or poor relay connector contacts
an open circuit in the harnessfaulty ignition switch (I am thining this one or the main fuse may have blown)

These are listed in my service manual. If you could provide a little mor info it would greatly help us to hep you as troubleshooting by remote can be difficult :)

from the pics it looks like you have a short somewhere as the connector is burned thru and the one terminal is a little corroded looking. I would clean the terminals in both connectos really good. Also, there are fuses up under the rigth side mid fairing. Remove the black plastic cover on top (by the tank below the throttle) and check to make sure none of those are blown.

Man, those plugs don't look great. I think I'd go ahead and replace them. So you have juice now, the bike died while running, but you get nothing when you press starter? Is that correct?

ok, so i just checked the fuses and the ignition fuse was blown, so i replaced that and it sounded like it was about to start, then the relay (or something close to the relay) made some clicking noises and then the fuse blew again...any ideas?

Check your grounds @ battery & frame there should be a couple that go to the frame; Inspect & clean. If those look good check all connections @ your starter, check for burnt or corrded terminals @ the starter relay; repair as needed. If all those items appear ok & by the nature of the origanal failure it is possible that the relay just went to hell & can't handle the load anymore. Or the starter could have a shorted winding, just basing this on past experiences not necessarily on bikes but I work on a lot of electrical failures on class 8 trucks, cars etc.

My money is on a short. You are gonna have to look everywhere for exposed wiring. If you have a circuit tester, you can try going out and working your way in at every "link" in the connection and see if you can find it. I feel your pain, I hate electrical probs.

Sounds like a short or a ground fault. I agree with tbones, check all your grounds and clean them real good too. Those are the first things I would check. :)

Try some basic troubleshooting to isolate the short. Disconnect plugs till the fuse no longer blows and that will get you closer to the source of the problem. This will enable you to find the section of harness where the short is located. It does appear that the bike has deveoped a short to ground somewhere.

    Good luck!
