i have a 1986 vfr 700/750. finally got it out and started to ride it and after a while it would die. it also cuts out in the upper rpm range. suspected a battery problem because it was ooooold so i poped a new battery in it then charged it on trickle charge for a day and a half. went for a test drive and it ran for a long time then died and would not restart (no voltage) got it home and put it on the charger and got it to restart. it is not charging. i have done some research and found that the rectifier is the ussual suspect. i have unpluged all the connectors i can find and checked for corrosion..... none found. the voltage never reaches 14 volts at any rpm. the rectifier/ regulator is hot to the touch when it is running. are thier any checks that i can do to make sure that it is 100% the regulator/ rectifier?????

at 5000 -6000 rpms it has 80-90 volts ac from the stater. and with the engine off it ohms out to .1-.3 ohms.

this all seems to point back to the rectifier/ regulator to me. any ideas on something else it could be?

if not i will be ordering a rectifier pretty soon i guess.

aftermarket. off of ebay. it works great. much bigger cooling fins than the stock one and i had to swap the connector end to keep the connector lock but that was super easy
