I am trying to register this bike, unfortunately the ass who sold me the bike lied about having completed all the paperwork and now I have got the DMV paperwork started but I can not locate the company that currently "legally" owns the bike to get a bill of sale from them. So I guess the bike is partly in my name but not registered or I am not sure...

Of course the guy who sold me the bike isn't answering calls or the place he is at because he also forgot to mention the back fees and the bike and knows I'm pissed.

So anyways, all the DMV would give me for info on the previous owner is "Recreational Products INS." which doesn't help at all.

I am wondering if anyone has access to anything that can maybe find this company so I can contact them.

    VIN on the bike is JH2RC3616VM700239 -- LIC# 14S9949

    In California.

    any help would be appreciated.

Recreation Products, Inc in Sycamore, IL Dealer Used Cars ?

I see they sell on Ebay, maybe he bought it off Ebay. For future reference whenever you do not have a clear current title always call the DMV with Vin and Plate # and check on currant fees. Suck when people are not up front. You may have to HAPPEN to find the bill of sale from that company. I think Jim Rosen was the seller.....

You won't be able to get a clear title unless all monies are payed on the bike. Hopefully it's paid off. If not, it's not legally your bike. So you may want to hide it from the repo guy.

Hmm, I wonder if you could put a lien on it and get your money back?

I was wondering if I could put a lien on it and get the title that way, but not sure. The bike is clear as far as title, it has some back fees in registration but I'm in the middle of taking care of that.

Just trying to get a hold of the company that had the bike before this guy, I think it is a insurance company, thus the INS at the end. But not sure. Hopefully if I bug the DMV office enough they will help me out.

In Washington, you have to file for a lost title. Then the DMV sends the previous owner a letter about the bike. If they get no response back within a certain amount of time then the bike legally becomes yours. You can ride it in the meantime, after a state patrol inspection. I found on the net Recreational Products Insurance, maybe the one your looking for.... here is their site

Awesome, thanks for the link, hopefully that is them. I swear I have searched tons of times and called about 20 insurance companies.

If not I will have to look into the lost title thing with our state dmv.

It turns out that after calling that insurance company I realized that I have already called them before, but from a different website. So it's not them...the search continues...

Hope he took the money you gave him and paid off any loan he had on the bike. Ohterwise, the lienholder still owns the bike. I went through the same thing when I bought mine. PITA, but we got it done.

No liens or lienholders on the bike. Title is clear, salvaged but clear and the only thing holding me back at this point from getting it registered is the missing bill of sale.

And the only thing holding me back from getting the bill of sale is trying to figure out who to get it from. But I am going to the DMV on tuesday to try and get things sorted out. Most likely I think I will just ask to talk to a manager since they have been a bit more helpful in the past when I have had issues.

Once I actually get the bike registered though I might end up selling it anyways due possibly moving out of the country for some cool sounding opportunities.

Well definitely some good news, DMV is allowing me to do a "Diligent Effort Process" meaning since the bike has a low value all i need to do is write down a statement of facts saying that I could not locate or contact the previous owner and the bike is mine, new title and all. Had to talk to a supervisor about it and she looked some stuff up and said that is all I need to do.

Now I just have to work on getting them to waive the prior register fees/penalties. Which according to the DMV website I can. So definitely crossing my fingers on that one.

Yeah I thought I was going to be SOL too.

I noticed something today that I forgot to check before I got the bike..the rear rotor is all messed up, looks like it was being ridden with metal to metal on the back brakes. Hopefully I can get the rotor re-finished, otherwise going to have to find a good deal on a rotor.

Hopefully I can get everything in order fast enough so I can sell it, will be sad to see it go but hopefully the next owner will get to enjoy all the work I put into it.

That actually happened to me as well. ended up just replacing the front rotor it happened to. No one near me suggested grinding them down due to the fact that they are so thin to begin with. Not the same as a disc on a car. It can be done though or at least I've heard of people doing so.

When you look around for a rear disc, be sure to search around a TON. The prices on OEM parts can very greatly from dealer to dealer. Dealer near me wanted $290 for a front rotor but I found one dealer online for $190 for the exact same part. Ridiculous!

I wonder, any any other rear brake rotors compatible with the VFR 750? Like a newer model or cbr rotor?

Not sure about oem for 750. I thought the cbr f4 fronts were similar but not positive. There are a bunch of after market companies that make rotors for the 5th gen. Should be able to find some for yours as well. I believe EBC makes some of the cheaper ones iirc.
