Needless to say.. I feel like a complete dumbass right now.
Yesterday (friday the 13th of course) I felt like working on my jetski, but we have limited room in the garage, so I thought it would be easier to just roll my dad's bike out onto the driveway for a little bit. His bike is (used to be) a 2007 VFR 800 25th Anniversary Edition in pristine condition with only ~2300 miles on it.

I was rolling her out of the garage.. and all I can really say, is that she somehow got away from me. I dropped her on the left side, snapping off the little bolt on the bottom of the left foot peg, bending the clutch lever, breaking off the left side mirror, and of course.. scratching the hell out of the fairing.

I was extremely pissed, and I can't really explain what happened. This sounds pretty cliche, but it all happened so fast.. So, I just squatted down and picked her up off the concrete.. not going to lie, this kind of amazed me, considering I weigh in at a beastly 144lbs.

My next paycheck is going to be used to fix what I broke, but the hardest part is coming first; I still have to tell him.

And the biggest thing that killed me was that he just ordered some frame sliders... and they were delivered a few hours before this all went down.. pun not intended..

I am posting this to get some insight, all posts (unless you're a complete ass) are appreciated..

Well at least it's only cosmetic, if I was you I would buy the new parts from Service Honda, I figure it will be a little over $400.00 to get it back to the way she was, I did a quick part search and the new fairing in red was $277.00, I'm guessing the RW/B is a little more, Service Honda is one of the best places too find new genuine Honda parts at a reasonable price, here's the link...

Service Honda Home of the CR500AF

P.S. I would try to sell the old fairing on eBay if it's only scratched, seems like there's always a person willing too pay $100.00+ for a fairing like that, good luck with your Dad

You are not alone. Although we usually drop our own bikes.
    It can all be fixed.
servicehonda.com will get you what you need brand new.
ebay should be a good source for used stuff. good luck.

It is a heavy bike and I'm sure it is like the cliche for everyone that has dropped their bike. probably in slooow motion. Your doing the stand up thing and already figuring out not only how to pay for it but also where to get the parts. As stated already, ServiceHonda is a good resource and ebay sometimes can be.

Toe Cutter is right, let him know asap as letting it go will only let you put more pressure on yourself. He'll be proud of you for taking responsibility on your own, bikes can be fixed...character building is much harder.

You're doing the right thing owning up and taking responsibility for it and working to get it fixed. You're dad should be proud of you for that. All I can say is TELL HIM IMMEDIATELY. What's done is done and that cannot be changed, and what you do going forward is what matters now. All kids make mistakes, either intentioanlly or by accident...that is part of life. How they handle the situation is what counts. In your case, you have to eventually tell your dad about it...the sooner the better. Nothing irks me more than when my kids do something wrong and then compound the issue by not coming clean right away. If you were my son I would be very proud of you for taking ownership and responsibility for your actions!

No, he isn't a member yet. A couple weeks ago I was looking around for a vfr forum for him to join, and VFRWorld looked pretty promising.. and when all this happened, I joined.

Don't feel too bad... apparently Friday wasn't a good day for motorcycle fairing or mirrors. Mine was sitting in the drive way and fell over... stupid asphalt... it wasn't even hot. Don't know if it's lucky or not, but "luckily" I had the hard bags on so I didn't ding up the rear end... except for the bags. Scratched the crud out of them... bent the clutch handle... broke off the left mirror... torn up fairing... etc... sitting there watching TV with my wife and... crunch... my heart dropped. Thing was, I usualy don't keep it there and I was just about to move it to it's normal spot... now I have to buy new mirrors and learn to live with all the scratches...

Friday was a terrible day for motorcycles...

Did the same thing as you. Have owned bikes for a long time and it seems that every one of them has landed up on its side at least once in its life.

Have you found a new place to live yet? I hate to tell you this but that's gonna be an expensive repair. Any scratches or dings in the tank?

    Regards,

I am completely aware of the cost. And no, the tank is spotless.

i keep waiting to see yer pops chime in here. lol... man thats some bad luck. My gut feels for ya cause we all know what the minutes after the spill feel like...just as you pick it up and say to self....."it might not be that bad".. famous last words... then we realize how easy a bike collects damage to the plastics, mirrors, pegs, levers, etc.

My son is here with me now, and I have to say if he dropped or tipped over my bike and worked up the fix, was going to pay for it, and came clean about it.. I would still let him sleep in the house (I think) seriously, its just a bike and sons and dads are more important.

A young fellow coming clean and having invested in the fix as you have would certainly qwell the storm IMO. hope it works out for you.
