Newbie here...Coming off a BMW K1200RS that is no more (another story). I'm looking to replace it & found a local ad for a red '07 ABS with 1700 miles, pretty much stock for $8,200. Sounds like a good price to me & am seriously considering it. I thought I'd throw out my line for advice on what to expect regarding the bike; would use it for commuting daily ~80 tround trip through Houston & twice yearly or so long road trips; have heard about heat issues, some instability when the v4 kicks in, but I like that everthing i've read says it's rock solid dependable, pretty fast, & comfortable. What about sound...need aftermarket pipe to get there? Thanks in advance...nice site.

07 for $8200, A little stiff. I think you can do a little better if you search around. As for sound Most of the VFR rider Prefer Staintunes.

    used bike

I bought new because used bikes would not budge on pricing and honda was and still may be sitting on new 07 still in the crate. 3.9 interest new 7.9 used . much better deal to go new , had to wait a week for it to show up but much happier to have bought new.9100 for the bike and I saw a dealer in long beach and oregon down as low as 8900 on 07's. Had to look around for a dealer willing to deal with ordering a bike and selling it at a price match but it was all worth it.

Toe Cutter hit it on the head. If you really want a nice VFR, go new. There are still several 07 and 08 sitting in dealerships gathering dust. They will be flexible on price for the older ones. 8200 for a used stock one is kinda expensive.

    Welcome aboard, Bsquared.

I paid $6800 for my '05 last year with 800 miles (17k on her now). If you could talk them down it would be worth it. Any mods on it already like factory bags? That would make it a good deal as the bag setup is in the neighborhood of $1k. There are many exhaust options as well. I personally think the Lasers match the look of the bike perfectly. But its fairly easy to gut the stockers along with the catalytic converter while you're at it. You definitely picked a near perfect motorcycle that is capable of anything and always a joy to ride. The only bad thing is you can't count on Honda dealerships for any support or parts like BMW. Luckily the most you will ever need is gas, oil, tires, and brake pads. Everything else is good.

I agree with the 'go new' concept. If you can find a dealer that HAS one in inventory, they may be plenty eager to sell. 'Specially given the time of year when cash flow is lookin' pretty good...have a full factory warranty as well.

To each thier own, but buying new is not the smartest thing to do in my opinion. There are used bikes (03-07) with low miles (2-12K) going for anywhere between $5 and $6.5K here in SD, Ca. Some of them already have aftermarket pipes and other goodies. Bikes/cars depreciate so quickly when you buy them new. Why not save some money and get a bike that's already broken in? Of course you have to check it out thoroughly and make sure everything is cool with the bike, but it's not too hard to tell how a bike has been treated when it's not that old. Just my 2 cents.

I think that price is high for a used 07 with 2k miles. Talk him/her down or look at another one.

If you've got $8200 in your budget, then I'd go new. Like everyone else has already said, that price is pretty high for a used bike.

I guess it depends on if you want to be the one to put the "very first" mile on your machine. Some can afford that luxury. I sure wish I could (but curiously, I'm glad I can't). You CAN work a deal on NOS '07's and '08s, with patience and persistence, just don't be in a hurry and don't let them see you sweat (I still have a guy in Laramie calling to see if I still want his '07 RWB ABS after 12 months. It's sitting there on the floor as we speak. Maverick Motorsports). You've picked the best time to do it and get the best price, particularly on a really low mileage used bike. Because of the economy, people are rushing to ditch their payments. My vote is to let the other sucker eat the depreciation and get one with a just few miles on it. After the first scratch they're all the same, anyway. Then you can REALLY enjoy your VFR.

I scored my '94 for $2K with 10,080 miles (documented) in October of last year. It needed body work, and I figured I'd have a little fun and do something different (see avatar). The bike runs flawlessly and should I want return to stock colors, it's a snap. I couldn't be much happier about my choice. (However, if I won the Powerball, I WOULD get a new one, if for no better reason than I can't afford one right now.)

Point is, Do what makes YOU feel good. These bikes are what enjoyment is all about. Whatever you choose to do, you really can't go wrong with a VFR.

    price

I could not get a used bike at a good price because everyone was so upside down. No money down and paid retail.

I personally don't think that is a bad deal. I was looking for new and used last year. Could not find a new one for under $9700 here in Ga. Dealers were not budging (although the economy is a lot worse now).

I found an 06 (whch was color I wanted anyway) for $9500. It had 1900 miles on it. Also included Corbin seat, Helibars and factory hard bags. I jumped on it and haven't been happier. At the time some people were telling me to find better deals too, but they just weren't out there.

Thanks for all the good advice...finding a low mileage used one with aftermarket mods already done & saving some real $ would be great; but if i can't find one it is a buyer's market for new ones so that is option too. I'm glad to hear no one advised against getting one, but i can see that $8,200 is too steep for used (especially stock)...& no offense to anyone, but it is red.

I just paid 8400 for a new 07. They wanted 8999 and I got them to lower it to make the deal.
    Cheers

Hey Jet, was that with the double bonus money crap that they are offering right now or just straight out the door price. I'm looking at the same, I was just there today. They're asking 9649 and then showing 1200 off for that bonus crap for a selling price of 8449. I think that the starting price of 9649 is high but I think that they think that they can get away with it by showing the 1200 off. If they were to price it at about 8900 or 9000 and then give the 1200 off, then that would be a deal.

Keep looking and you will find a better deal. $8000 is way too much for a used bike that is stock. Does the bike at least have ABS?

VFR's are very solid dependable bikes and in my opinion there is not much advantage to buying a 2007 model with only 1700 miles versus a 2003-2005 with say 5000-6000 miles. I've seen tons of relatively low mileage 2003 and 2004 models with all the goodies already included for $1500 to $2000 less (aftermarket pipes, aftermarket seat, hard bags, risers, etc.)

Don't just look local either. Craigslist is a great place to find deals if you are willing to make a 5 or 6 hour drive to pick up your new toy. Most VFR owners tend to be older and more responsible that the typical sportbike rider and a well maintained VFR can easily last well over 70,000 miles.

    Where exactly are you located?

    Regards,
    Rollin
