I love listening to music on long rides. Last summer I started my long search of the perfect earphone while riding. For me, the criteria was simple. Something that blocks out all outside noise, that provides decent quality sounds.

I have tried Skull Candy, Sure and Sony. All earbud style, all saying they block outside noise. They all performed fairly well, however not up to the level that I wanted.

I stumbled across a pair of etymotic er-61 earplugs recently and they are EXACTLY what I have been looking for.

They block all outside noise to the point where if somebody is talking next to you, you wont hear them, and the sound quality is awesome. Better than anything mentioned above. I like bass in my music, and these certainly provide for such a small device.

When riding, there is ZERO wind buffeting, and very little outside noise. All I can hear now besides the music, is the growl of the Staintune. I am very picky when it comes to finding the perfect device or the latest gizmo to ride with, and these meet and exceed all my expectations.

These earphones received awesome reviews, when they were $150, however they can easily be had now for $75.

I've been using the Etymotic ER6i ear buds for a while now. They are great and do everything powderrecon said. My only gripe is that they are hard to get out of your ears sometimes and you have to resist the urge to pull on the very delicate wires that run to them. I would highly recommend adding 2 little pieces of 1-1.5" fishing line just inside the rubber ear plug part with little knots on them. This gives you something more solid to grab onto when pulling them out and you don't even notice the fishing line when wearing them.

There are now cheap imitations of these at radio shack that have the ear plug style. I bought some for 30 bucks and am very happy. Even when the music is off, the ear plugs do what I want for noise suppression.

How could the CHP tell that you had two earphones in?

Been using some Sony in-ear myself. Model# Sony EX MDR-EX36V. They go for $30, I got them on sale for 20. They have good sound, an external volume control and they fit quite well under my Corsair. Only problem is that the cord is quite long, and the volume control are closer to the plug side, so you have to leave a good amount of cord out if you plan on changing it- but not bad for $30. I use them on my 1 hour commute to work and I can't really tell that I have them on, until I go to take my helmet off.
