I found a bike that has front end damage. The owner replaced with new OEM Honda parts. They replaced the front fender, front cowling, headlights and oil cooler. With all this damage how come they didn't replace the fork? Let's just say the price for this bike is a steal for condition/mileage. Maybe there's a reason behind this. If this was a car, I wouldn't buy it. Just too much trouble with tracking straight, headlight doesn't point in the right direction, little quirks that gets irritating in the long run. Bad previous auto experience. I guess my initial gut instinct is pass on this bike as this is my first and I don't know zip. I'm going to get a paid inspection anyhow. Just wanted to hear other people experience with owning/buying a wrecked bike?

All I can tell you is if you not comfortable with the bike then don't buy it just because it cheap. My 2cents

Does the bike currently track straight and does the neck of the frame have any indications of damage - creases, irregular lines, paint flaking?

If the frame is straight, sounds like worst case scenario is you may need to get a new pair of forks. Add the cost to the price of the bike and see if it is still a good deal.

I have fixed and kept (for several years) a few wrecked bikes. All with front end damage. I haven't had any trouble, at all. But, I did all the work myself. I've seen bikes with the wheel bent almost double with no fork damage. Then, I've seen bikes with little or no wheel damage have bent forks. If you ride a lot, and know what a bike should feel like, you'll have no problem telling if the frame or forks are bent. Also, check for a "notchy" feeling in the steering head (bad steering head bearings). Flakey paint is a dead giveaway.

Thanks for all the replies. I passed on that bike because I just didn't want it as a first.
