I have been debating of whether or not to gut my stock mufflers. First if I don't like the new sound or its obnoxious to a female passenger I want to be able to put them back in. I know you can buy used mufflers for under $100 but I would not want to do that.

So my question is after gutting the stock mufflers on my 02' will I be able to put them back in and restore it to factory sound??

Can you reinsert them without welding?

I believe the job requires cutting. I also believe there are after market mufflers out there that have removable baffles that can be replaced. I forget the name, unfortunately.

That's a heck of an idea, buy some used stock mufflers, gut 'em and then you have your old units when/if you want to. A quick search didn't result much, but I'll keep looking.

The answer is no, once gut and gutted its a done deal. You wont want to go back anyways if done right.

If you don't like the way it sounds you could always trade someone for their stock set. I've seen several people posting in the past looking to trade a gutted exhaust for a stock and vice versa.

    Regards,

    Partial gut

You could do like I did. I had the same concern about the Full gut being too loud, so I chose to do the partial gut method. There's a post in here somewhere for it with detailed photos and everything. That way if you still want it louder, you can still perform Full gut. I love the sound of the partial gut, it's just right and sounds like a friggin muscle car. Deep tone and throaty sound. Let me know if you want more details, it's easy to do, and super inexpensive. :thumb:

These things really aren't that noisy gutted, just a nice growl. Remember , there's two cans to share the load.

I have a set for my 06 fully gutted. no one likes riding behind me when they are on. Thats why I also have a set with only one baffle out. It gives a growl without making everybody deaf. BTW its not real loud with out a helmet but for some reason the helmet makes it louder going down the interstate.

I would track down another set exhaust, to do the gutt on. Then if you don't like it, you have your original exhaust to put back on. Then can sell the gutted pipes.
