Hi, I just got my rear cbr f2 wheel and i need to change the bearings to the vf500 ones. I wanted to bypass all the extra work of getting the bearings out of the vf500 wheels and was looking at getting new ones. So can somebody tell me if i should get OEM or if the ebay ones are good. The one kit is pyramid-parts and im not sure if they are a reliable source. Honda VF500 1984 to 1987 Rear Wheel Bearings Kit - eBay (item 390025548114 end time Feb-19-09 02:54:43 PST) eBay Motors: HONDA VF500F INTERCEPTOR 84-86 VF500 Wheel Bearings (item 260352637294 end time Feb-01-09 21:42:48 PST) Thanks a lot.
don't cheap out on bearings: Pyramid as well as Allballs are made in China and are cheap crap. QUALITY bearings come from USA, Japan, or Germany ONLY!!
Thanks for everything but the price at the dealer is actually cheaper than ebay so i think its better to just get them from the dealer.
I recently removed my wheels for anticipation of powder coating. I presume it is in my best interest to remove the wheel bearings before they get painted, right? I have about 20K miles and wonder if I should just get new ones while I have it all apart. Also, how do I get the suckers out? Is it an easy job?
Im guessing you should atleast cover up the bearings if just being painted and i saw some tutorials on youtube with a couple different bearing removal tools. The manual for the vf500 said you should try to hit it around the bearing but that didnt seen to work, but that is probably because i didnt have a torch to heat the bearing up because that is also recommended by most. Hope i helped.
Looks like someone already mentioned the price difference. Short story = bearings of good quality aren't much more money, if any at all, than cheap bearings. Buy the good stuff for the pocket change difference and they will serve you well for many years without worry.
probaby best to leave bearings in place during PC if you're changing them to prevent any powder from coating that area. seal up all bolt holes, and be prepared to run a tap in before replacing rotor bolts, and use blue locktite. not recommended to reuse any bearings after removal, so get new ones.
thanks for the help, just picked up the bearings today, just waiting on getting the old ones from the cbr wheel out then throw it on
