I know a bunch of you have done this, so I'm starting this thread to consolidate your information and will journal my own after the install is complete.

Please make sure you list the year of your bike when posting information and pictures.

Note: Please no Helibars, Genmar, Variobars, or Rogue's excellent Swarf Inc. risers. They each deserve their own install thread but this one is dedicated to Convertibars.

    thanx

    Convertibars

Didn't you ever install the convertibars? Hope nothing happened to you! I am trying to decide on either the LSL Handlebar conversion (regular handlebars), or the convertibars. Any advice?

Not trying to be an a$$, but why would you pick Convertibars over Helibars? The Convertibars require new brake and clutch lines which double the cost of Helibars, not to mention the additional labor. I know the Convertibars are marginally higher, but not by much.

    Just curious....

    Why Convertibars

    Kevin_70,
I chose Convertibars because they allow me to change my riding position based on whether I'm pushing hard on a technical road, chewing up 600 miles a day on open roads, or commuting on the slab.

I did not replace my brake and clutch lines and can raise my bars about a 3" with the stock lines. I like the HeliBars but I have a long torso and they didn't quite suit me. The Converitbars allow me to move my riding position forward or backward to accomodate my build.

Since I didn't change out the brake and clutch lines, the installation was a very simple two-hour matter, 30 minutes of which was spent testing different riding positions and marking the preferred positions. Using the marks, I can change to any of my three preferred riding positions in a few minutes.

The most critical installation task was marking and drilling the orientation holes in the "clip-ons" and cutting them to length; even that requires only basic mechanical skills.

    Sixweeds,
I don't know anything about the LSL bars. If you are looking to raise the bars more than ~3", you will need the replacement brake/clutch lines and that will significantly complicate your installation. If you are looking for a little more rise than the HeliBars and want the ability to lower them at will for more aggressive/track riding, then I think the Convertibars are a pretty elegant solution.

I preferred the Convertibars, but cheaped out and got the Helibars. I prefer the adjustability feature of the Convertibars. Guess I could sell the Helibars and upgrade to the Convertibars. Hmmm.

You mention that you actually get 3" higher than stock? The Convertibar website says 1" higher with stock lines/cables. Thats great, and if thats the case I may upgrade from the Helibars(1.25" just doesnt seem to do it). Do you have any problems with contacting the fairing or windscreen?
    Thanks
