So, we all know our VFR is a little on the heavy side. I really would like a little more bite on the braking system. I have the ABS model and have worn out the rear brakes, I am curious as to whether different pads produce better stopping power. To sum this all up....What is the best performing pad for our VFR?? Do "centered" brake pads really offer better stopping power?? With out going to stainless steel lines, whats the best way to boost my stopping power?? This is brake pad question, so any links to sites with pads would be helpful...

    Thanks guys,

    andyk

I replaced my worn out stock pads with some EBC double H pads and after a few hundred miles to fully seat to the rotor, they perform farily well for a rear pad. it is hard to tell since when we use the rear we are also applying front and inturn applying more rear using the second master cylinder in the left front caliper.

I now stop using my rear only on most occasions, stop signs, planned redlights, standard slowing down and what not.

I would recommend some EBC Double H pads and remember they take to break in (200+ miles)....

I think they mean "sintered" .. Its just a manufacturing method for brake pad compounds.

I have been using a set of the Galfer Black organic pads on the rear, and the Galfer ceramic impregnated race pads on the front. I do not recommend the Galfer Black pads, as they make a huge mess with the dust that comes off of them. They do work good in combination with the Galfer front race pads though.

I just ordered a set of the new rear EBC Extreme race pads and i'm going to give them a tryout. For the VFR they supposedly have the highest coefficient of friction of any pad currently on the market and they break in very fast, way less than 200 miles. As these pads are also a sintered metallic type pad, I'm sure this will cure the maintenance issue concerning the pad dust mess.

Noobie question while we are on brake pads...how long do your brake pads generally last, I understand this will be different depending on riding styles, but just an average if that's possible?

My brake pads generally last until the pad is almost to the metal bracket! :tongue1:

Mileage wise....no idea. I've only replaced my pads once with OEM pads and I am not sure if the previous owner left me notes on the last brake pad change. It totally depends on riding habits though. How aggressive you ride(track/street), weather conditions(wet), rider weight/load, and lastly, the pad material. Different types of pad material have different life spans and offer different levels of braking performance. It's best to make brake pad/disc inspections part of your routine maintenance at oil changes

The EBC Double H's are Sintered pads.

I replace the rears at 10k and the front have about 40% remaining pad at 16k, I do not know if they have been replaced or not, I got the bike with 4k on it.

How fast do these pads wear out your rotors? Is there any difference compared to stock or is it pretty negligible? The idiot before me wore the left front brake pad down to the bracket and let the bracket chew the shit out of the rotor so that was the first thing I had to replace on the bike. Not looking forward to ever replacing a rotor again due to the high cost ~$200 each.

ebc are great.. the more of a race compound you get the less the life of the pad,but they do brake harder, next step wave rotors yeah!! now your talking..
