Ok i will be the first to admit, i dont know photoshop and photodraw 2000 is all i have access to right now.. having said this , here are the futre plans for my vfr800 (fifth gen)

here are the mods I have in the works:

Stock: 5th gen frame, engine, swingarm, rear wheel

2006 HOnda 599:front end: triple trees, handlebars, fender, forks (maybe) and rim

2008 Ducati Hypermotard: rear subframe, seat ,tail lights

So far i have been able to aquire the ducati subframe and most of the parts from the hypermotard, the honda 599 parts are really hard to come by, since they produced them only for one year (2006) in the states!

Let me know what you guys think!

PS: the bike shown in the pic isnt mine, that was the only naked stripped down VFR800 that i could find on google!

I think the radiators should be blacked out.

    Uh, you mean Toro?

Yeah, that's Dan's bike. And I think you'll find the 599 forks to be too short. Early RC51 forks are about the longest USD forks you'll find, and they are still shorter than the VFR forks you're taking out.

Correct me if i am wrong, but the stock forks are approx 800mm long, with 45mm of the fork going past the upper triple tree (for the stock setup) so that the clipon type handlebars can attach to the fork. IN my case i am planning on using the 05-06 ZX6r forks with the 599 triples (i think they are the same diameter) and the length of the forks are 775mm. and i dont need the forks to be more than about 5mm above the top triple since i am mounting handlebars, so for stock height i only need the forks to be (800-45 +5) 750mm where as i will have about 775 mm approx, so i think i should be ok with the length, or am i missing something here?

    my 2 cents worth...

    Hya, nice idea.

i looked at your composite pic for a while and have decided that i really dont like the side mounted rads.
if they werent there they'd show more of the V4 engine, which IMO would be a better look. plus its a big rectangular shape hanging out there which doesnt flow with the rest of the lines going on around it.
asthetically it doesnt work for me.

soooo..what to do if we move the rads...

here is an idea, and i stress it is a conceptual, the actual nuts and bolts would have to be realised further down the track. but hey...if OCC can do this sort stuff...so can we.

how about moving to one rad mounted right where you have the headlight at the moment.

and what to do with the head light ? .....ditch it favour of say 6 small HID led lights mounted in 2 x vertical 3 stacks to the left & right of the rad.
    (black out the rad?...maybe?).

the objective being to keep the remounted rad clear for optimum airflow
and to change the frontal styling.

also not overly keen on the exhaust spaghetti( thats a personal taste thing )
but i'd look into getting them simplified into maybe 2 big mother pipes.

ohhhh..and maybe have it exit at the exhaust collector, just prior to where the can currently connects.(ala buell) keeps the back wheel clean.

i note both these changes are usually covered by fairings and so less conspicuous.

anyhow just some ideas for ya...

    good luck with the project!

brijesh600, interesting idea. No way would I do that to my present 5th, but if I had found a wrecker to play with, it would be cool as a 2nd knock around rat bike. Good luck.

Just my opinion, but that idea has some serious drawbacks...that would really be the suc in the summer time...I know it's merely a conceptual idea, but here's my take:

    1) big, ugly, hot radiator right in front of your face.

    2) the radiator would have to be pretty damn big.

    3) not only has the fan been deleted, but if you did somehow get it mounted, that would be awesome at a stoplight when it's 100 degreess out and the fan kicks on

    4) that's a bunch of weight mounted up high on the handlebars, added weight up high..big no no. not to mention the aero effect when the wind blast hits the radiator...

    5) what are you gonna do about the hoses when you have to be turning the bars all the time and they are hard mounted to the engine....

As far as copying anything on a buell....blasphemous for a VFR, again, just my opinion.

As for the OP, good luck with your project!

Cooling the 800 is going to be the real key, have to agree there. the lack of plastics to direct air might be problematic. The side mount rads look gawd awefullll!!! The 919 does have a big rad up front, might do the trick. Just remember, when you start moding the bike, there is no limitations on whats a good idea. Its how you want it to look. if it takes a radiator and fans out of a Civic to cool it, SO BE IT. Heck I didnt like my 82 magna either a couple years back....[IMG]

thankyou for all the recommendations, ideas (keep them coming!)
unfortunately a lot of them werent new to me, i have thought of the underbody exhaust, but that would require modding my stock headers, besides there isnt too much room under the engine like the buell does to have the underbody exhaust! anyways the exhaust can you see in the pic just happens to be there becasue that came with the picture, i might use a stubby exhaust so that still shows off the rear wheel.
The radiators are my main concern, with the VFR already having cooling problems, elminating one radiator is not an option. I had plans of installling a cBR1100XX radiator in the front but the minimal room in between the forward cylinders and the forks made that impossible. I am trying to see if i can find a smaller raidiator that will fit there (suggestions??) So as if now the side radiators will have to stay !

    Radiator

look at some of the other radiators too. I know my wife's last vt600 had a tall narrow one with a fan, maybe some of the other shadows might fit the bill, as well as the magnas fom back in the day. My current yam FZ1000 has a compact but wide, hi-volume on on it. matter of fact look at some of honda sport quads. the has electric fan w honda wiring as well and it might be an option. like i said, the sky's the limit.

Ambitious and interesting project. I am coming from a Dual Sport bike to the VFR world so I will definitely be keeping an eye on this project.

I really know nothing about dual sport (i like the idea!). I just love the ducati hypermotard but cant afford it! I got this VFR800 as a realy good deal, took me over 6 months to get it running! I dont like the big rear end on the bike , initial plan was to have a buel xb12R rear subframe on the bike, but they are almost impossible to find! I happened to come across someone parting out a 2008 hypermotard (which had been down!) so i was able to get most of the subframe parts for a reasonable price off ebay. Parts should be in this week
I need to get this bike registered before i start hacking up anything, so the build might take a few months/years

ok i am resurrecting this thread again! i had to sell the vfr because i needed the money more than the bike, last year to my wife's colleague. well.. it turns out that the guy i sold it to wasn't able to come up with the funds to finish the bike so he is wanting to sell the bike back to me!! So i think i am going to buy it back and try to finish this project!!!

I am interested in the motard.
Why not have a V4 motard?
