    hi,
    i'm a newbee here.this place is great!
my question is my 85 700 came with a 120/80-16 front has anyone tried a 130/70r-16?
i've found 8 radials in that size and radials in 140/70-18 for the rear
just want to know what you think

    thanks for your time

Stay with the 120/80 it is the size that works for the front and it's all tied in to how the machine works as a whole. Now for the rear you could go like to a 140/70

well i went with the shinko 006 podium radials

    130/70-16 front
    140/60-18 rear

all i can say is wow! these things are sooo much better than the metz/bridgestone bias tires that were on there. the shinkos ride smoother are way stickier.
i think they did alter the handling of the bike tho, for the better!

thanks for your input, i'm not bashing your post i really do t/y for your reply.maybe i got lucky with my choice. but i did alot of research and i'm glad i bought these tires

welcome to the board newbie, and you'll not have to worry about offending anyone here. unless you badmouth the ride they have...... anyway everybody has a lot of god info to give on this forum. but its your choice to listen. most of the guys, and girls here have have VFR's for years and now what combinations of upgrades work and don't work. just food for thought.

    once again welcome.

The wider tire choice will have an effect on the machines feel upon initital turn in, when cornering. The contact patch of the wider tire will also be fractionally larger. This may have the effect of making the steering feel heavier. The quality of the ride with radials compared to bias ply tires is a vast improvement. It is also possible that the tire may be slightly taller.

If you are still running the stock set of fork springs, the slightly taller tire might actually help. Over time the fork springs will sag and this tire height can help to raise the front ride height a bit, overcoming a little bit of the sag.

If you find that the front tire feels "heavier" when steering, you can help this by raising the fork tubes in the triple clamps. Start by raising the tubes 4-5 mm. You should get the original feeling back by making small increment adjustments. make sure that when you raise the tubes that you don't go so high that you cause a clearance problem between the fender and the radiator. You should have a safe adjustment range of 0-10 mm of front ride height.

I'm glad you chose to make your own decision and go with your own feelings, that is how you really learn about what does and does not help your machine.
