How many of you would buy a VFR 1000

When it's time to part with the '99 800, I'll take a good look at the VFR1K, assuming it becomes metal. Should be a fabulous motor. The mock up in MCN looked a little strange, though. The frame cutoff point looked like a right bodge. Let's hope Honda do a better job.

 

something y ou really should know about MCN is that its basically a "National Enquirer" tabloid for motorcyclists, and the articles they publish are about as trustworthy as those in the National Enquirer. very few rumors that MCN produces ever come to light, and irs really nothing more than a waste of 10 minutes and toilet paper.

 

A 1000cc V4 or V5............. hell yeah! I'd put my order in as soon as rumors are confirmed!!!!

 

:thumbsup: They're coming. Just got back from having my Tea leaves read by Madame Mijanou who has assured me there will be not 1 but 2 VFR1000's released on 24th September a Sports & an ST version but she blinked when I asked the obvious v4 or v5 question.

LOL speaking of Runes, Now some folks say why would Honda build a V5 as they have nothing to prove, not necessary they won't. Ha, I say to that as they built a Rune and didn't need too, but they did, So??? Honda is funny that way when they get a craw up their A$$ there's no stopping them, like in the NR750, they didn't need to but they did anyway.

 

If main change will be more HP, I'll almost surely go for it!

 

Good point, Honda has demonstrated itself very capable in producing great and innovative machines in the past, some would say even the VF then first VFR were brave moves when their Japanese competition had great success in making powerful easier to manufacture but for me duller IL4's.

I too have ranted at length about the horrible throttle in my 6 speed TSX and as well how the iVTEC (continuously variable) can make a nasty surge when rolling out of full throttle at lower rpms. My '81 Civic had a better throttle.

I made the mistake of going off on my electronic throttle soapbox to a friend who has a 2006 Porsche 997 (aka 911) Carrera S. Well, after a short drive I can tell you there's nothing wrong with electronic throttles as executed in the 997. Stunningly good response. Honda's execution of the technology is the problem... to quote above... "Sometimes new and supposedly superior technology just isn't applied or used correctly". So I'll remain open to the VTEC, not my preference any more than an electronic throttle is in my TSX, but if Honda can do it as well as Porsche I'll be a believer.

I know this is getting to be a bit of a dead horse, but I'm not a fan of technology for its own sake. If Honda will make it lighter, no less comfortable, keep the hard bags, and give it the power to weight, suspension and braking to match a CBR600 - and hold the current pricing- I'll be buying this year. ABS is coming to all Honda's offerings whether we like it or not, they will undoubtedly link the brakes too - as long as they can suck my eyeballs out like a CBR and have better feel I won't argue how they do it. I'd *really* like it, though, if they could do it as a 750 again like my '93. Just the way our insurance works in BC, and just another reason I don't own a VFR800.

More on the point of "I won't argue how they do it" - ie results matter more than technology to me- if Honda decides to run a 'big bang' inline 4 (as rumoured for the new R1) in the vfr and figures how to get it narrow and light, torquey and sounding soulful like a VFR should, with all the good characteristics of a VFR, I'd probably still buy it.

 

So, what happened? Will there be a 1000cc VFR, or was this just wishful thinking on our part?

Seems to be, But "IF" they make one that's even close to what I'd like to see then I'll consider it, as it stands there are a couple others now that stand in the way..

After 25+ years with this model you do have to ask "Where to now Honda?"
Time to bump up displacement or?
In semi-quoting the 25th anniversary celebration article in Motorcyclist - The VFR has no match in all of motorcycling. It is not the cheapest, or the fastest, or the lightest, or the quickest sportbike out there.
It is simply the best.

 

1000cc VFR............. hell yeah! I'd hit that........!! That's what I've been waiting for!

 

VFR 1000 Hmmm

It sounds great to finally see a VFR 1000! But you know what! I'll just stick with my perfect 99 5th Gen (no vtec)! Besides the more 1000's that are sold the more my 99 5th Gen goes up in value, I mean she only has 31000 kms which is about 16 to 20000 miles!

I already got permission from the wife to add a third bike to the stable if Honda makes a VFR1000. But they better do it right. With gear driven cams and a sweet RWB color option non vtec and just to say it twice GEAR DRIVEN CAMS.
