OK, so lately I have been noticing my bike running warmer than usual. Whne I got it back in June, it ran anice and comfy 170-180 F. Since last week it has been riding down the road at 185-189, even going 85 mph down I-40. And when I pull on to the downramp and stop its easily running 200F. Now, I know I am new to the VFR but is this bike suppose to run hotter after a breakin period or am I just being paranoid. I would hate to roaste and fry my engine and have Honda tell me, "sorry this isn't covered undered warranty". I also noticed that since last week, when my fan comes on, it has a flapping or ticking noise, while the fan runs. I can't see anything in its path to be making the noise. I checked the coolant and the level in the resevoir seems fine. The oil seems to be at a decent level. Any ideas or comments?? or anyone want to call me paranoid???
You are fine as far as the temps go. If you do a search on temps here you will find several threads that show that the VFR is hot. Not sure why it was so cool for you this summer. As far as the fan goes, you may want to look closer at the fan shroud. It may be rubbing on the blade.
it's normal. when it starts getting hotter out, it'll only get worse. expect temps to get higher as the weather heats up. last summer, my 04 VFR was running anywhere from 210 up even while commuting down I-40. when off the freeway, the fan was basically on non-stop. it IS normal, but it's one helluva paranoia ain't it? Makes you a little paranoid, doesn't it! Everything is fine. I wouldn't worry about the temp until you start seeing 225 or more on a consistent basis. The fan kicks in at 220 to cool things down. On one hot summer trip out in the desert near Taft, CA I was running at about 215 degrees @ 100+ mph in 95+ degree heat. No harm, no damage... I know someone is trying to mod a different fan to the bike and maybe install a manual switch to activate it. Try a quick thread search to see if its listed yet.
