That wasn't the point. You made it sound like there is no danger to foreigners in some countries.I believe there is a lot of danger to westeners in many parts of the world. There are many people who would like to kill as many "westeners" as possible. And your argument that guns are not needed to defend oneself or others, seems unrealistic.

You mean the State Department, after the training you recieved, never gave you any advice or protection. Or did any of the embassies or consulats help you out in any way.

Nope. Do you have any personal knowledge of this subject out side of being the child of a diplomat?

OK, so the areas where people are allowed to carry guns open or concealed are "safer"???? Maybe its because everyone is afraid of everyone else because some wacko might start shooting because he gets cut off by someone on the freeway or cut in line at the local post office. Or maybe they are so reliant on their guns that they would feel naked and unsafe if they didn't have them strapped to their side. They go into every new situation thinking about who looks more dangerous than the people there before them. Don't sit with you back to the front door; you never know who might walk in... With everyone living in fear of one another and everyone carrying guns it really sounds like a place I'd want to raise my family...

As for Canada, I never hear of some 13 year old child shooting up their school because they are depressed and feel like they can't play in the other reindeer games. (tis the season!)

We who are privileged enough to live in the USA (with no disrespect to other nations intended) have more freedoms than the majority of the world. Just the fact that we can have this conversation openly and without fear of prosecution proves that the argument that our freedoms are being stolen is moot. It takes an educated mind to understand the importance of one's individual rights. Maybe if we were more passionate about making sure everyone received an education and not whether everyone can carry a gun we'd be in a lot better shape. I've have yet to see a Harvard grad at the local Quickie-Mart holding the place up with a gun... Just a thought!

    Merry Christmas!!

I wished I could agree with you 100% on this line but we have our problems too. Just it "seems" not as much as our friends to the south. Maybe you just don't hear about it in your media down there. Maybe we have 1/10th the problems you do because we have 1/10th the population. Who knows. I think it was in Taber Alberta a few years back a student went into a school on a rampage. I heard that he got rejected by your avtar earlier in the day.

It stopped snowing....again....for now. Hope it holds off. Have to go into Vancouver in the morning to pick up the daughter for Christmas dinner. She is a west coaster and not used to the snow. On the other hand, I'm a flat head from the Prairies. I laso drove in this crap for 25 years at work to.

    Merry Christmas all.

I don't care what you ride and I wasn't slamming anybody. You had a seemingly all knowing, been there done that, opinion until I asked you a legitimate question that you chose not to answer and decided to play the victim card instead. There is a word for that.

I grew up with guns, and I grew up shooting them, respecting them, and taking a safety course to shoot them. I think that we should have a right to bear arms, however, in most states, it is way to easy to get a gun without any gun safety training whatsoever. I would be for a mandatory gun safety course in order to purchase pretty much any gun. Too many clowns out there without any knowledge or respect of guns, that just go out and buy one within a few days and know not a thing about how to handle and use them properly/safely. In the case of open carry (as was mentioned) I believe it is way too easy for someone to grab that gun and use it against you....not to mention that it just makes some folks just way too uncomfortable.

In the US, I personally just do not feel the need to carry a gun with me on a daily basis wherever I go. I do not like to live with that kind of fear that I need one with me wherever I travel. I feel that I am 100 times more likely to get killed in a car wreck, than shot by somebody robbing a store. We take chances each day in our lives, everytime we get on our bike, in our car, on a plane, eat a plate of sushi, etc. Unless I had some threat on my life, or I was a celebrity, I just don't live with that fear. If one day somebody robbing the quickie mart shoots me, then so be it...that is the chance I will take in my current situation.

Education, (on gun handling, safety, etc) training, and respect is key in gun ownership....that and common sense on when and where to (open) carry, and/or carry at all.

Of course, these are just my opinions....it's your life, and you will do as you please....

I said I won't enter into the gun thing but here I am... Dammit.

I am not a gun person. Never have been. Never will be. I carried one for 25 years at work. Though I am not snipper or anything like that, I am very good at the safe handling and use of a handgun. I considered it a neccessary evil of the job. When I retired from that job, I ceased to possess a gun. I have no opinion that I care to share about those who choose to possess, own, carry or whatever. But Stuke, you could not have been any more dead on the money with this post. A common saying is that people kill, not guns. What is absolutely tragic, is when someone injures or kills someone only because they have not learned the power of a firearm, or recieved professional instruction on the safe handling of a firearm. What is tragic is when a child gets hold of a firearm because of unsafe storage of the firearm...like in one's bedside drawer. What is sad is when a non professional person tries to teach his son/daughter how to handle a firearm. My son is not the slightest interested in guns either. If he was, it would not be me who teaches him the safe handling and use of a firearm. There are people more qualified than me to do this, and my son's life is worth the money. If he were to be out with any of your son's, their lives are also worth my money.

    What is that word ?
Trust me. I'm the least knowing of all. I tend to be a follower and not a leader. I strive to learn and I take criticism very well. I'm not offended easily, but I'm very protective. Merry Christmas. You can tell me the word.

shall not be infringed is confusing to some people.

california is a may issue state, and you cannot carry a loaded firearm with you. although you can carry a pistol with a magazine in your other pocket.

your right to bear arms has been trampled in kalifornia.

the largest suppressor of rights is our justice system, and law enforcement.

victimless crimes, and injury less civil actions have no basis in anglo-american law and our constitution. all crimes where there is no victim are unconstitutional, all civil actions with no injury/victim are unconstitutional.

that means, drugs, traffic tickets, "gun control" laws, etc...

self defense, and firearm ownership is a right given to me by god (or common law for you godless folks) and i'll kill anyone who tries to take it from me.
