Does anyone know if the cams are the same for both gens?

I have a 93 california version VFR with the crap cams and am looking for a 49-state set of cams. I seem to be finding 4th gen cams an no 3rd gen cams.

    Thanks
    Jon

According to the holy Honda shop bible they are different in specs, but doesn't say anything about not bolting up.

The specs show even the CA model has different specs. Yea like that was a no brainier I know the carbs and valves comp ratio differ and heard, but never looked into the valve timing and lift, and now that I look it up yep they are different too from 3rd to 4th. But it's specs are different, nothing mentioned whether or not they bolt up, nor do the manual drawings say anything. as it's a general take it apart put back together manual. I will say if it's that generic and by how it reads I'd say they will swap. But since they are different spec and you have the carbs and different Comp ratio, who knows what kind of performance will come of the swap. Man, maybe you should try it ;) Wish I good be more helpful.

I've thought that the 3rd and 4th gen motors were pretty much identical.

So what is so different with the carbs (besides smaller pilots)? Compression ratio? Heads? Between cali/49-state models?

Actually the 4th gen Carbs are smaller. 4ths are 34mm where as 3rds are 36mm 4th gen is up .5 on comp thing on the cams is 5 degrees diff in opening profile if that makes any sense, so not much again after looking through the manual I'm not seeing anything that says they wouldn't fit, that and the ca. cams are really retarded. no good in my book.

ah...I was thinking more subtle differences in the carbs. No biggie then. I wonder where they get the bump in compression? Thinner head gasket maybe?

Cali cams just suck. They have much smaller lob hieghts compared to 49-state cams. It's enough to see with the naked eye in pictures.

Thanks for the info...now who has a set of normal 3rd gen cams I can buy.
