    Hello again,

Does anybody know if the bolts need to be torqued up on the R/Hand crankcase cover, also do they need tightening in a particular order ?

    Thanks in advance

I am surmising that you do not have a manual, or access to one.

I always tighten stuff down in a star-pattern myself. You could always tighten them to PFT (pretty f*cking tight)!

Here is the link for manuals, not sure if yours is on there.

    WHOA there!!!!!!

Army got his figures way wrong!! he was thinking of the starter clutch cover, not the clutch cover!!

clutch cover bolts are only around 10 -14ft-lbs torque based upon their size and what they're threading into.

I think he's talking about the cover and not the actual crankcase.....27-30 lb ft.....you better get a helicoil kit.

Funny thing is m8's is that when I read this yesterday and was tightning up the 3 bolts on the starter clutch to 30 lb I thought jee wizz if I use 27 to 30 on the crankcase bolts which are only 8mm I thought then that they would snap like carrots

So the crankcase is on, I did these bolts by feel so far no leaks but I can't start my bike, not sure to carry this on here or another new post, though my battery is on charge and I'll try again today

Thanks for warning me Squirrelman and Norcalboy

Standard torque on a 6 x 1 bolt is 6-9 ft pounds, unless the bolt's hardened.

SORRY!!! I was looking at the book, not realizing that it was refering to the cover on the clutches. I'm glad they chimed in before you cranked on it. I was thinking it was high, but I've seen small bolts tight.

Again, sorry. Glad you got it together okay.
