Rust in gas tank, any ideas?

Hey, im restoring a 84 interceptor 500, and I found a decent gas tank which still has good looks on the outside, but rusty on the inside. Any ideas on how to clean it instead of nasty muriatic acid?

i had a fuel tank rusted in pinhoes in 12 places.....kreem didn't work!

You need to get a remover that will take out the creem. in my humble opinion I like a coating called POR-15. It is thicker that creem and will fill all of the those holes. I used it on a tank that I got this year and I was thoroughly impressed. Follow ALL of the directions. If you don't it will fail. Make sure you have a few syringes and some fuel line to suck out the excess coating. Good luck.

 

Kreem worked for me

Used it on a '77 Wing. Tank out of frame. Followed directions explicitly. I think I even did it twice because tank has goofy shape and I had doubts about a recessed area or the neck. It took several days.
Also, had to removeandclean every piece of fuel system. 4 carbs got a rebuild as long as I was disassembling and cleaning. Great project in January and I learned a lot about my cycle.

I then used the Caswell stuff per squirrelman's recommendation. Turned out well.
