It has 25k on the clock. The guy has had it for over 14 years, he could be the second or even third owner.

Tires are new, battery is newer. It won't run off of choke, but I forgot to ask if it will rev with choke on.

He's looking to get $700obo, so I was going to offer him $400-500.

Does this sound like a good deal??

Hack, I paid $250 for my VF500, and some $200 bucks later, it runs pretty good and pretty quiet:smile:

Also, he doesn't have the oil mod installed, and I don't think he'll allow me to take the time to remove a valve cover...he's really quick and short in his answers and tone:rolleyes:

Seat is mint, but I think it's been repainted red...but I don't know...he worded in a way that can mean it's red and stock or paint is red stock.

    What do you think??

I know its not my VFR700, but I can always sell another bike for that one:wink:

    Thanks

    LL

    No !!!

ANYONE who buys any pre-'86 VF is asking for trouble, imo!!
    not worth the agro, mate.

my advice to ANYONE: buy the NEWEST bike you can afford, leave the antiques behind.

you know about the upper end oiling defect on the early models??

Yeah I know where you stand squirrelman ; )

Been trying to find a 2nd gen or 3rd gen for 3-4 years now, and all were junked.

However, I did come a cross a 96' VFR700 for $2200, but it was laid down and repainted.

    Any other advice??

    LL

    P.S.
Love that 86' you posted......*drooling at this moment*

my advice is to look for a 4th gen @ about $3000 or a gen 3 for around $2000
just because the bike has been repainted shoudn't rule it out....after careful inspection of course
check cragslist, ebay, this or other VFR sites

If you look in the 3rd gen area, you'll see my post of one that I came across.
And that was in 2 and half years of looking.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Emailing the guy, that I'm going to pass.

    P.S. Just found a near mint 87' FZ600 with 16k on the clock for $2100 ; )

the clean FZ is a rare find cuz most were thrashed, trashed, and crashed by inexperienced squids

i'm sorry i sold mine, but have the same engine in my Radian ( 30k miles ) and it's super reliable!!

one probem might be the primitive, funky fusebox

    Awwwhhh, I'm not worried ; )

I thought you were going to say they were like prone to blown pistons or something.

    I'll try to post a picture if I find it....but I have to watch....this is a VFR forum : )

Emailing him later tonight. I'm syc'd!!!!

And what's even more good about this bike, it has the original exhaust system on it!!!

    Thanks squirrelman ; )

    There's a near-mint '97 VFR 750 about 1/2 a mile from my house - guy wants $2800 for it. I think it has 25k.

Winter is the time to buy...
