After 6+ years of searching, I have finally found the very elusive VF1000R to complete my 1986 collection. The bike I found is exactly what I was looking for. It is completely stock, has no modifications and has less than 3400 miles on the odometer. There are a couple of easily repairable light scratches on the front fender and fork, but the bike is easily a 9.5 / 10.

As with my '86 500 and 750, I plan to tear the bike down to the frame and completely detail it. I expect to take my time and it will probably take me a couple of years. I plan to post some pictures of the bike (before tear down) in the coming weeks. When I am done, it WILL be a 10.

I am so happy to finally acquire this fine machine and to close out the '86 line up. For those "in the know", Honda did make an all white VFR700F in 1986, but it is basically the same bike as the VFR750F. The RWB color scheme of the 750 is way nicer, so I consider this collection complete.

Congrats! I've been looking for another R, but something requiring some work because 1) I'm not into 'stock' and 2) I'm cheap. Keep us up to date on the progress.

Nice.. if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, a thread like this is worthless without photos.

You've shamed me into it. Here it is. It will look much better once I'm done with it. I plan to clean it up over the next couple of weeks and will post some more photos then.

    84 Vfr 1000r?

Hey Guys, I just sold my 06 VFR and am looking at getting another (older) sport bike. Can anyone tell me about the 84 VFR 1000R? HP, Torque, handling characteristics? the bike is cheap with lo miles ($1750 or less 12K miles)

    Thx

In my opinion they are a old heavy boat with tons of motor compared to your 06 with poor brakes and handling. That being said i have one and would rather ride it than yours .The bars are also low clipons and the bike is long for me ,i'm only 5 9. They weigh over 600lbs. and have a "factory hp rating " of around 130 i think .The R also has less of the motor problems the Fs had .

The bike you're looking at is a 1984 VF1000F. The VF1000R did not come into existence until 1985 and 1986. Here are some links:

There is no doubt that this bike is a tank compared to the 750 and 500. However, the motor is easily on par with my 6th Gen and I would dare say actually has more HP. The 1000R to me does feel like it has more grunt and overall power.

Actually, Honda made a VF1000R in 1984 for all markets except the US. They were sold in the US in 85 and 86. The 84's were a tad bit different but basically look the same.

Yes, I should have clarified. Since azsmp resides in the US, I'm assuming he's looking at the F considering that there is no VFR1000R model.

That is sweet. I always like the looks of those.
    Reminds me of Freddy Spencer.
