Things have slowed down on the site with the cold weather. With my thoughts already towards warmer days, I'll pose this question. What are your plans for bike repairs, mods, etc.. for the winter months?

I will be checking/replacing brake pads
    The dreaded brake fluid change.
    Time for a new chain.
    Thermostat just because.

Just a few repairs needed this winter.
    New rear wheel bearing
    new chain
    new rear brake rotor
new sprockets (cause the rear wheel is coming off anyway)
and a complete repaint back to original colours

    * Replace bulb in dash between tach and speedo.
    * New back tire
    * Maybe a smoked DB screen?
    * Oil change

    What can I say? It's a Honda - "gas n' oil".

Well, since I live in San Diego, I will be installing the snow plow very soon, as well as getting my heavy duty snow blower ready!

On a serious note, I need to change my thermostat. She is sticking I am sure of it.

I'm not taking mine off the road this winter, but I do have a few things I haven't gotten around to that I can get done on days when the weather is too lousy to ride, such as:
    1. Install the headlight modulator I've had in the box for several months now.
    2. Install the tail lights to turn signals and brake lights module (also been sitting for several months).
    3. Install the shift kit I have still in the box.
    4. Get my Corbin Beetle Bags and my top case painted red (now yellow and black respectively - my bike is red).
    5. Maybe install some heated grips (I have heated gloves).

    I've already changed:
    Air filter
    Clutch fluid
    Plugs
    Coolant
    Oil & Filter
Installed VFRness, remote battery tender, checked voltage, inspected wires and connectors (all is well).

    Attempting:
Brake fluid - What a pain this is. I missed a bleeder on the rear caliper (there are 2!). Time for a re-do.

After that, the bike goes back together and I wait.............
I was going to change the fork oil but after reading what's required, I'll pass on that. I'll wait until I upgrade the springs or the seals start to leak.

Going to buy a new jacket, helmet and gloves, though.

Mods? Yea okay my mod is over the top, could be better just to buy the bike. but then I would have a one of a kind. it's more a question is it worth the $$$$$ for what you get back in dividends. Jury is still out now that there's no new VFR1000

I plan to warm it up every few days, burn some gas, scrub a fine layer of rubber off the tires...

Fix the oil leak on the front valve cover
Clean the oil off of everything below and behind the valve cover
    Whatever else I find.
rebuild my '78 CB750F since it's now in a few plastic storage bins.
Get another full time job to pay for all of that

After a summer running box-stock, I'm going to decide on some luggage for the spring. Probably Honda stuff...spare no expense, to hell with the recession. I'll pick up some Water Wetter to put in it this spring - I'd like it to run cooler in stop-and-go traffic. I'd also like to step the rear sprocket up about 3 teeth. I might even grind the tab off the front brake master cylinder to be ready to put Heli Bars on it. Undecided on that last bit.

We expect 5 inches of snow here tonight. Thank god for internet technoporn.

Winter was supposed to begin in mid to late October here, so I started my project (see here: 1994 Honda VFR750F/R) and guess what, we had about 3 extra weeks of nice riding weather. I had the bike apart and down by the end of October, so no joy. The good part was a good start, so I got a lot done. The camera flash does this color no justice.

On deck, but not on the blog is LED tail lights, tune-up, and new upper fairing paint (orange inside the tape line) yet to come, not to mention incremental replacement of any and all worn bits and pieces.

    RedRover:

You can send your rear shock to Race Tech and they'll rebuild it. They can do just a spring change all the way to stripping it and putting gold valves in it. You got to call them for pricing, but when I called it was pretty resonable, about 500 for the full monty (a little more than, but I like round numbers:smile:)

    Well the game plan is:

    1. Send rear shock to Race-Tech for a rebuild
    2. Put HH brake pads on the front
    3. Replace the chain and sprockets, this probably won't happen until spring.
