Have no clue, the last week I've had this vibration in 3rd gear @ 4k rpm.
The transmission over the past 60k miles would from time to time not move to the next gear and grind a little but would engage with a little help from my left foot. friday night while lane-splitting on hwy 880 through hayward at about 40 mph heard a glunk, like the chain broke, got the bike to the side of the road, shifter was stuck, bike would not move.

I have no clue how I broke a gear, from what I can see the gear is in many pieces.......I'm going to remove the motor, fix the transmission, and overhaul it. good for 100K

that kind of damage is usually provoked by lots of very aggressive starts, shifting gears at full throttle, badly coordinated downshifts, or loaning your bike to an inexperienced rider....

Please note: i'm not accusing you of this stuff, unless you plead guilty to the any of the above.
If you purchased used, blame the PO.

This is not a common failure (for a Honda).

I'm guilty of some of that stuff.....rode the bike everyday to work, long weekend rides, went to Ohio this past summer. love the bike in the twistys, would race it all the time. my fault for sure.....I'll pull the engine fix it and do it all over again.....I'll just be a little easy on her!

I know a guy in Michigan selling a 5th gen motor for $75. Good motor and tranny. He just wants it gone. If you're interested, pm me and I'll give you his contact info.
