I just ordered a set of OEM hard luggage saddlebags for my 2006. As I understand it they are lockable. Is there anyway to get the bags keyed the same as the bike?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give!

The hard bags are made by givi and the locks are a completely different size then the ignition key. So to answer your question No I don't think you can get them keyed (sp?) alike.

They list for something like $1100 but you should be able to find them around $850 if you look hard enough (eBay, etc). My friend thinks they're waterproof but I haven't ridden in a downpour (yet) so I can't say for sure.

Here's a photo of it taken today!

Mine are not waterproof. They have a rubber seal around but the water gets in anyway. Maybe I ride too fast:cool: Most hard bags that I know of are not completely waterproof.

It was taken where the pavement ends on the Apache Trail (approximately 7 miles east of Tortilla Flat). I was looking for a different background than most of my shots on that road!

Good to know! I was planning on buying some waterproof bags to put stuff in anyway so this just confirms that it's a good idea.

Rode mine about 500 miles in mostly rain without leaks but have the Honda bag liners anyway. It keeps my crap from falling out when I open the hard bags while they are on the bike. I asked a Honda parts guy if Givi made the bags and he said no. He claims that Honda makes their own bags (which would surprise me). The OEM bags seem more substantial than the Givi. You'll be happy with them.

Where do you find the bag liners? I'd love to see a photo of them and hear what you think (quality, value, etc)!

The first time you put them on it's only moderately complicated (if that). You do have to do some minor drilling. The attachment points that come stock on the bike only have holes approximately 11.4mm in diameter. They need to be 12mm to put a ferrel spacer in. Same with the back plastic fender. Very easy to do (especially if you can find a 12mm drill bit.

I regret not taking step by step photos of it during the install just as a guide for others or to help make decisions easier to make!

Too funny... that was exactly my thought too. If they go to the trouble to manufacture the bracket with the hole already there, you'd think it would already be the right size!

I'll try and post a couple of photos shortly of the bike sans hard bag showing how it looks with just the bracket.

Does anyone know what the rated capacity is in these bags? I looked a few places and could never find the capacity stated.

    stuff

Ok.....I don't see how you guys think putting the stock bag mounts on is so hard. I did not have to drill any holes, everything lined up perfectly. I have a fender eliminator kit so I made a small bracket to connect the mounts together where they would normally mount. As for the capacity of the bags my mount backets have a weight listed on them. (I'm out of town now so I can't go look at it to tell you what it says) I want to say it's 22lbs or so? Does this sound right to anybody else?

You have a 2003 and all works fine out of the box. The 06 has smaller holes in the rear pegs and the fender mounts are a little different. I think you are right 22lbs per side. I was loking through the Aerostich catalog and noticed they have waterproof soft luggage that fits right inside the OEM hardbags. These would be great for long overnight trips. Just open the bag and your stuff is packed right there all organized to take with you.
