Does having an aftermarket pipe increase backfiring? I noticed when I accelerate pretty quicly then back off I get a little popping. Not a massive backfire or anything like that, but it is hearable. Is that okay? I have assumed it was because it has always done it since I've had it but I was curious.
That is just a little bit of lean backfire caused by a too lean idle mixture. It is common on a bike equiped with a free flowing exhaust system. There is no damage being caused by this and it adds a gnarley crackle to the bikes already awesome presence. I met a fella on a Buell XB9 last night who followed me for a few miles and was very complimentary of the VFR rumble and crackle which is something coming from a Harley type rider. Mine will give a little pop between shifts if the conditions are just right (love it) but it is mostly heard when engine breaking as the mixture is too lean to burn in the cylinders.
cool. I figured it was okay since it has been doing since I got the bike. you're right it does sound cool. every time someone follows me, I get compliments about how awesome the bike sounds. too bad I dont ride with more vfrs, I'm sure we would sound like thunder.
Mine does it. I think it's a little cool realy since I can hear the engine better. I think also that because we have aftermarket exhausts that we hear that little backfire more than we do with the OEM can.
