    Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask: what is the operating temperature of a '96 VFR750 in the winter?

I took her out for a short ride tonight and I noticed that the temp was really low. It was not in the solid white square, but it wasn't at the middle of the gauge either.

Admittedly the temp was a bit cool (about 8 degrees celcius), but it struck me as strange to hold such low temps.

On traffic lights it was climbing a bit towards the middle, but while cruising at 60-80 mph the temp would fall towards the bottom of the bracket.
It never went in the solid white part, but it never reached the middle either; it basically remained within the area marked red below.
    (see attached diagram)

    Any ideas? Is this normal?

If you do a search for 'temperature' 'thermostat' 'coolant' etc you will find much discussion on these topics. Thermostat may be what you're after.

I think that's normal. My bike (an '86, not '96) is the same way. It's always on the cool end in the winter, and on the high end in the summer.

i've had the same problem and solved it by covering the oil cooler with duct tape and covering about 1/4 of the radiator with cardboard.....

You're fine. My '94 reads about the same in cooler weather. In the summer it does move toward the hot end of the gauge. It's never overheated and I have ridden in 100+(F) temps.

    Cool!!! :)

By the way, I just came back from my mechanic, who confirmed that this behaviour is normal and he also gave the bike a thorough inspection. He was absolutely stunned at her condition. He couldn't find any flaws at all!:smile:

So it looks like I got myself a keeper! :) Hurrraaaaaa!!! :cheersaf::cheersaf:
