I'm in Illinois and I am trying to find a good place to mount the tollway transponder on '07 VFR. Local bike shops sell a holder that mounts on the handlebar. It's ugly and there is no room on the handlebar to mount it.

Any of you guys that use automated tollways have any ideas?

My Sunpass here in FL has suction cups on the back and sticks very well to the inner side of the windscreen.

I have a Marsee tank bag with the clear hard plastic top compartment. I just put mine in there. Works fine.

Thanks!! Illinois gives us hard plastic velcro strips to put on the windshield but I am afraid of scratching it. These are all good ideas and I'll have to experiment to see which way works best. We got our first snow yesterday so who knows when I'll be able to test these ideas. Thanks again!

    Thanks again!

I've used my EZ-Pass in both a backpack and a tank bag. Both work well.

    one last thought

mounting on the bike almost requires you to make sure (every time) to bring it with you going into work, malls, home if you park in a public place. Would hate to see a "five finger discount" happen to your pass - best bet is in a bag that you always take w/ you.

that way miscreants are not tempted to enjoy free toll road riding

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge was not impressed by my EZ-Pass in the plastic atop my tank bag approach and rang it's bell and flashed it's light after I went through on the way to BZ's bike Bar-B-Que.

We'll see if there's a nast-i-gram in the next bill

I live in Northwest Indiana and have used my I-Pass from the clear plastic area of my Sargent tankbag. Never had a problem.

brdbluz, Sorry to get off track but how do you like the Sargent tank bag? I just saw it on their website for 75% off = $45.00 with free freight.

Although the Sargent bag has worked well for me, I am not sure that I would buy one again. The bag connects to the bike via some snaps and clips. It has never given me any problems, but it is a little annoying removing it for refueling. If Sargent produced the bag with a magnetic mounting system, it would be perfect. On the positive side, it holds a lot of gear on longer trips and has never leaked during heavy rain with the use of the rain cover. Hope this helps.

So. To revive an old, old thread here.

We now have two toll bridges here in the Vancouver area. Both offer transponders. One is a smaller plastic box type you attach to the inside of your windshield. Or the system takes a photo of your vehicle (license plate) and you get a bill in the mail. I don't have a transponder for that bridge.

The newest bridge has a transponder that is not much more than a decal with a chip inside that you attach to the inside of your windshield, or on a bike, just below your headlight. Once you put these things on, they cannot successfully be stolen. I think the chip gets damaged when you pull it off. Regardless, you don't pay up front, you are either billed or you sign up to have automatic withdrawal from your bank or credit card. You gotta watch your accounts as there are stories of system failures that have had people billed for crossings they did not make.

But back to the reason I came to this thread in the first place. The first bridge, where I don't have a transponder, someone told me that on a motorcycle, if you ride right on the lines dividing the lanes, for a substantial distance before and after the cameras, they will not take your picture, therefore you don't get billed. I suspect that they have these cameras calibrated so that there is a dead space between the two lanes. I guess this is to ensure that tow cameras do not take a photo of one vehicle for one crossing, and in doing so, double billing. I don't know.

But I have tried this on the bike a few times and it does work for that bridge. Most of the times anyways. I have gotten one bill but I probably did not hog the line early enough or late enough.

I hate tolls. The amount of money the government gets from gasoline taxes, and property taxes, should pay for the infrastructure we drive on. If not, the bureaucratizes are failing.

I hear ya! You can't get into or out if Tulsa with out paying a toll! (Unless you take secondary roads) I got my toll pass stolen when I had it mounted to windshield so now I just leave it under the seat. Of course it never gets read by the toll booth and always sets of the camera and lights. Here in Oklahoma they have to compare your license plate against their customers so I never get a ticket they just charge my account the toll amount. I too have tried riding the line and I don't think I got charged but I don't think all the toll booths have cameras. Most of the booths have concrete walls on both sides to funnel you into the camera range.

I blew the toll on the Golden Gate a few years back. I was all fucked up in my mind and very suddenly signs were telling me to stop and pay the toll but I was in the HOV lane or some fast track lane or something like that, and lots of traffic right behind me so I just kept going. Last time I was over that bridge, there was no toll. I did pull over to the curb a few blocks on the San Fran side to remove my rain gear and a Toll Cop for lack of better words drove right on by. Haven't heard anything since. Mind you, this weird looking plane keeps circling above my house.........
