Anyone regretted gutting the exaust?

Looking at this mod and read how to do it and people seem really happy with it.
Has anyone one had a negative experiance?

Hesitant to do somethign so....irreversble.

 

I am very happy that I did it... Invested around 30 bucks for cutting discs and drill bits. It sounds like a beast (sort of).

 

I am really happy with the sound of mine. I think it sounds better than most aftermarket exhausts. And when I get sick of the sound, I have another stock set that I swap out. I usually swap them when I go on a trip because the loud ones get on my nerves after a while.

 

No problems yet...no surging, hesitation, or any other issues..she sounds really mean too!!! I am glad I saved 1k and just gutted them.. Save the money and time and just hack them up like the write up...trust me you will love it...

 

Interesting question. I would imagine most had heard someone's gutted exhaust and then wanted theirs done.

That's like asking if you regret losing your virginity or something. :ncb:

 

I gutted mine a year ago. Put 12,000 miles on it, still runs great. Still get 51mpg on the freeway!

 

Gutted mine as a winter project last winter.
I have been riding all season with the pipes gutted and no problems so far!
I have recieved compliments on how good it sounds.
I love the sound,and I would not go back to stock!:vtr2:

 

I love mine, it was gutted by the previous owner. I also get a lot of compliments on how it sounds. Good Mod.

 

I gutted mine last spring using the no weld method, love the sound and no performance issues. I have moved from Alberta to Vancouver Island since then and we get more rain in the island than in the prairies. I was initially concerned with water getting into the pipes but it hasn't been a problem. I once had my bike parked outside work while it rained for a couple of hours, after work I checked the pipes and did find a small amount o water on the bottom of the end caps but the space between end caps and pipes allowed the water to drip off. There was no water inside the pipes itself.

Go for the mod, and next time you ride you'll have this silly smile on your face...trust me.

Anybody have some sound clips? Sounds like a good alternative to aftermarket pipe's for me.

Did the no weld method. So far so good. Sounds way better than stock. Great mod for those of us not wanting (or to cheap) to buy an aftermarket exhaust.

 

When I bought my '04 I didn't know the previous owner had already gutted the exhaust. But, once I found out it was done I couldn't really imagine it being any other way. If it was any quieter it would do the bike no justice, it just sounds right with the gutted cans. You won't regret it and if by chance you do, there are always cheap oem sets being sold by those that have shelled out the big bucks for an aftermarket system.

 

hondawolf, I watched the video and love the sound. Did you pull the baffles or use the hole-saw method without welding?

Got my '07 done by a close friend who is handy with a welder. He did say the 'stainless' was of poor quality luckly he is a engineer and can work around those issues. We did a 1/2 gut the first time - was ok but not quite the rumble I wanted. Then did a full gut - nothing internal left only the spark mesh left in. I am very happy with the results!

I know there are a few techniques out there to gutt a 6th Gen. I would recommend doing it right by cutting and then re-welding. Great sound (not too obnoxious but noticeable) and no exhaust blackening around the tail.

 

thinking of doing an exhaust gut mod. is there any power loss or mpg loss?
