I want to remove the center stand on my 04. Anyone know if I need to remove the exhaust pipes to get the bolt off on the right side?

Why do you want to ditch the center stand?

The first time you go to adjust or lube your chain, you'll be cursing that you ever did it...

It's a Ricky Racer mod......trying to shed a few pounds of weight. If it's because it's dragging on the ground, I'm going to have to laugh out loud.

I've got a rear tire stand so lubin the chain won't be a problem. And to enlighten Norcal, I spent last weekend doing 2 track days at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway. It was my first track experience and it was friggin AWESOME!! My instructor strongly recommended I remove the stand, and after the first time it scraped I clearly see why. I'll be heading to Carolina Motorsports Park for another track day in late November and feel I should follow the instructors advice.

If anyone is interested, there is a company called Sportbike Track Time who sponsers the events at motorcycle race tracks all over the country all year long. For only $100 you get a ton of track time and one on one with an advanced race instructor both in a classroom and on the track. They even feed you a decent lunch. Anyone interested in more info just hit me at adamhfrank@gmail.com, I'd be more than happy to share.

I want to take my center stand off as well...I have only used it once to remove a tire and am not planning to do it again...I would like to see someone's write up on the procedure as well as any benefits to losing it...I am kinda thinking its so low on the bike it wont make much of a difference..I have yet to drag it on the pavement when in full lean mode...

After a little studying I now see that the pipes, or headers I think theyre called, must be disconnected at the engine. I'm assuming I will have to replace gaskets at that connection, unless they are metal?? I'd love to hear from anyone who has tackled this for some insight. Thanks

you will need to get your hands on 2 of the copper crush rings for the downpipe to cylinder connection at the front cylinders and two of the graphite sleeves to connect the rear downtubes to the header when you put it back on. Part numbers can be found at Service Honda, if you have a catless header make sure you get the graphite sleeves for the 5th gen, the 6th gen sleeves are too small.....Ok, don't bother looking, here are the part numbers:

    Part Numbers:

Copper Gaskets for front cylinder to downtube gaskets: 18291-MN5-650

Graphite Gaskets for rear downtubes to header: w/cat 18391-ML8-000
Graphite Gaskets for rear downtubes to header: wo/cat 18391-MN5-650

Thanks NB! Ordering gaskets tomorrow and I've been able to download about 3/4 of the 6th gen manual, enough for the torque specs. Guess I can let that Ricky Racer thing go. Seriously though, I really appreciate the info.

My solution to touching the center stand to the pavement was the purchase of a 600RR...

Dude save yourself a big headache. I'm not going to flame or anything but if you're scraping the centerstand, get your butt off the seat more. There's no reason why you can't ride the VFR, AS IS into an Advanced level pace. This is simply a body position issue. If you just started, I can see why the centerstand might be a problem. If the instructor is flat out telling you to remove vs recommending, what choice do you have other than do it or find another org.

Seriously though safety wire the center stand so it won't come down and forget about it. The only thing I ever scraped on the VFR was the pipe on the right side and that was due to an awkward uphill turn that bottomed out the suspension. Carolina Motosports Park won't be a problem. I had the VIF there last October.

Whatever you decide, good to see someone else on the track. I'm also considering a trip to Carolina at the end of the month.

    ^^^^ What Two4One said. ^^^^

If you are dragging the center stand on a 6th Gen VFR, you ARE NOT ridding correctly, period, end of story. Body position will more than make up for this. I would also recommend getting a new instructor.

    KC-10 FE out...
