I am getting closer. I was able to get the bike out and ride a little today. But here is my problem. Same as before.

    symptoms:

The bike only runs if the choke is on.

When it is running with the choke the rpm's go up and down a few hundred k rpm.

Even when running at high speeds it does not have power like it did before.

    Actions:

I have taken off the carbs and soaked them, blew them out and made sure they were very clean.

2 carbs have brand new seats, pins and washers.

Iv got the carbs as closely synced as I can without testing them.

I'm using a fuel pump from a ninja that I am confident is working.

I'm using a peacock that I know is working

    Specific Questions:

Can I test and sync them while ideling on half choke?

What level should the fuel be in the float bowl?

What do you think might be causing the problem?

It seems to run well, its like it is running so lean that there just isent enough of an explosion in the cylinder to run.

    Thanks for your help.

Maybe I missed it but what is the year and model. Also have you tried turning the idle up I know my vfr runs about 3k rpm warm with the choke on. Your idle may be too low for the bike to work without the choke.

Low speed idle jets are plugged; must be cleaned ultrasonically or replaced

They sat in cleaning solution overnight, i could see clean through all of the jets though?

Could it be a vacuum leak?

Blow through the pilot/low speed jet while it's in your hand, then see if you can see through the small hole, if so, then do not reinstall.

Spray carb cleaner into the hole the jet was seated in. You should see a squirt of fuel enter the carb bore just in front of the throttle flap.

Did you remove, clean and set the pilot jets? The pilot jets do affect the entire RPM range, but is mostly affected at idle and just off idle.

As stated above, you're gonna have to remove the pilot jets and manually clean them. You can get jet cleaners at your local dealer which are basically little wires that are sized according to jet size. After cleaning with that, then squirt some carb cleaner through the jets and make sure the residual gunk is out. Then sync them properly. Very common problem and I've cleaned many a carb in my time as a m/c tech and the only way you're gonna make sure they're clean is to do it that way.

wouldent you risk scratching the inside of the jet if you use a wire?

I've also used the wire method with good results. I think the others are correct, it sounds like you have a blocked primary. The only other thing I can think of is if it was jetted for high altidude or similiar.
