Ok guys, do I really need this service done?? and whats it gonna cost me??
I know I need the oil changed, but will the dealership really check my fuel line throttle operation and engine idle speed?? or will they charge me $200 bucks and just really change the oil...? I figure brake fluid and pads are good still...Not to change the subject but how many miles are typical on brake pads anyways..I am thinking all I really need is a oil change anyway..

The only thing I take my bike in for is the every 16K valve service. Even then, I don't go to a dealer, I have a shop in my area, whos techs used to work at the area dealers. Half the cost. My pads usually go about 12K miles. I'm at 36K now, pads been changed 3 times. Doesn't hurt to check the pads though. Really depends on how you ride the bike. My last set of pads only lasted about 8K miles, due to more spirited rides.

Save your cash. The book says oil, filter, and spark plugs at 8k. I did mine at 9k because I do oil and filter every 3k. Everthing else is general check over stuff.

My manual says 16k on the plugs...its an 2006...I think I can handle the rest..Do you guys actually change out your brake fluid and clutch fluid?? and the manual says 8k on the oil....what do you think...?? I am thinking with it being a honda and all...just change to oil til about 20k then have the valves checked...brakes and tires are a given already with me, and I keep an eye on most of my fluids

    17000 and counting

I have 17000 on my 2006 and counting. I have changed the tires rear and front and the oil a few times. I use 90 weight on the chain to clean and oil it and I keep the slack in the area it should be. Other than that I ride it. I bought a Honda after all.

+1 on the save your cash approach.

I'm going to turn 27,000 during my next ride and I still haven't checked my valves, tsk, tsk. Matter of fact on my last ride I was thinking in my helmet that the ol' Viffer was feeling especially stout. I'm sure the cool air had something to do with it.

In terms of changing out your clutch and brake fluid I would absolutely do that. All you have to do is look at your sight glasses in the reservoir to see how bad they are. If it's not clear, change it out. Based on experience the Valvoline Synthetic DOT4 fluid holds up really well in terms of heat and durability. No fade at the track and even the clutch fluid takes several thousand miles to show any discoloration whatsoever. Can be found at any WalMart, etc.

My bottle looks like this: [IMG]

2 cent note --- Valvoline renamed there Syn Power fluid to -- Valvoline Synthetic Brake fluid. No matter still very good stuff. Kinda like the contrast between dino oil and synth.

Replied a little late but maybe this will help the next guy. SAVE YOUR MONEY. I took my 06 in for that $180 oil change & my butt hole still hurts. I actually stood at the counter for 5 minutes looking at my invoice trying to figure out what was done, after all, I did request the 8,000 mile tune up. The service manager tried to convince me of what I got. "The $180 is more then just an oil change". His pleas fell on deaf ear because under my seat was my invoice from 2 months earlier when I got oil, filter, rear brakes, chain adjust & safety inspection for $182. I use my 06 for my daily commute and get regular PMCS (preventive maintenance check & services) so it's their loss for trying to rip me off because that money goes to a shop that is further away but has never tried to screw me.
