I'm wondering if I can get helibars for my 97 VFR? If so, where is the best place with the best price?

Are there any other bar risers that will work on my bike?

Unless I'm mistaken, the tallest (and cheapest) option for raising the bars is to swap in a set of handlebars from a Hawk GT. The Hawk has VERY tall clipon bars, like 4" above the triple clamp. It was a popular mod for the 4G. I'm thinking about doing this for my '97 as well.

I'm pretty sure that the stock control cables will still work but you'll have to verify that. I'm also pretty sure you'll need to grind off the little "locator nub" on the bottom of each bar, since the triple clamps are shaped differently.

I had an 88 Hawk before I traded up to the 97 VFR... I'm not so sure the Hawk bars will work since it looks like I only have a couple of inches before the fluid reservoirs interfere with the windscreen/fairing.

I'm contemplating on getting some convertibars that I've read about... however I'm not sure if those will work either.

I can't comment on clearance to the fairing as my bike doesn't have one anymore, but I can tell you that with the Hawk clipons you will need a longer front brake hose, great excuse to go stainless. The rest of the cables can be rearranged, but the clutch line is touch and go so best to replace both. FWIW, I didn't like the tall clipons and went back to stock. YMMV.

Another option I've heard of is the Spiegler superbike bar conversion.SPIEGLER - Superbike kit

I have a set of machined spacers that raise the existing bars about 1/2 inch which is as taill as posible with stock lines and cables and without causing clearance issues with the fairing.

I paid about $100 for them. The work well and helped take some of the strain off my neck and sholders.

Thanks for the offer but after a bit of further searching both on here and through Google, I found a page regarding helibars on a 4th gen bike:
    HeliBars 1 <- click

However I wasn't ready to drop top dollar for a set of bars that may change the bars to an akward angle, albeit a bit taller. Further research showed that 5th Gen bars are slightly taller than 4th gen bars (I lost the site that had this information). So, I bought some 5th gen bars for cheap. They are slightly taller but the alignment tabs do not line up. However, instead of cutting off the tabs, I used that tab as a spacer to raise the bars that much more on my 97 VFR. Unfortunately for me though I was not very attentive when I bought the bars, they did not come with the inner and outer weights... so I get a bit more vibration now :(. Even if I were to get new weights (and the misc items to mount them) straight from Honda it would be a cheaper than the GenMar spacers or the Helibars.
