new boots

I currently have a pair of Alpinestar SMX plus, I like these boots and they are very comfortable but I need a recomendation for a good pair that would be more suitable for short trips and everyday use, something that i can walk around in once I get where i'm going. The SMX pair offer great protection but for quick runs to the store or work wearing jeans I find myself opting for my trusty runners because the Alpinestars are kind of like wearing ski boots with jeans. I would like something that offers protection but better for day use and walking around. It's only a matter of time before runners will come back to bite me (probably in the ankle).

 

Yes "runners" means running shoes, trainers, kicks etc...

I did see at last years motorbike show that Puma makes some street boots, does anybody have any experience with these?

 

I have been using Alpinestars Octane Riding Shoes, they are kind of like a 3/4 top sneaker. They are easy to walk around in and comfortable to ride, allow a pretty easy shifting motion. So far I like them much better than full height boots.

 

I wear the Sidi Doha boots for situtations you're describing.

Another SIDI boy here (Vertigos) but my full boots will be kinda like what you already have. They do have some "shorties" like the style shown above. Take care of those footsies and buy good stuff.

 

Another Sidi Doha wearer here. I also have a pair of cheap street shoes that I leave at work to change into. The Doha's started squeaking after I wore them in, and they aren't cheap by any means, but, they have better motorcycle protection than sneaks. Good protection at the ankle and a neat racing stripe on the bottom.

I saw the Puma boots you mentioned. They look pretty nice, however out here they are fairly pricey. If anyone has a pair I would like to know if they are happy with them.

 

Yes, those look like a good solution. SIDI has a few that are similar too. A nice solution when you want protection but need to look like a fairly ordinary human when you get to your destination.

 

Sidi Doha here as well. Nice boot for clear weather and is ok for walking around.

I wear a steel toed tactical boot by Rocky. Good fit, high ankle lace up, great sole, and I wear them all day with no complaints.

 

I wear high timberlands. not really "riding" boots but are technically construction boots. I like 'um b/c not only do they work well, there water proof and look better than most riding boots.

 

Try the Sidi Way Rain boot.

Don't get hung up on the "rain" in the name.

I was looking for a boot that would provide some protection and security while riding, but still offer enough comfort and flexibility on and off the bike to not discourage me wearing them.

They work great for me. I mainly ride sport - touring and commute to and from work a few times a week. Since these boots do not "scream" motorcycle boot, I can wear them while riding to work, then keep them on all day - no problem.

They are comfortable right out of the box, but are VERY comfortable after a few weeks of riding.

If you want a boot that does NOT feel like you are wearing Herman Munster bricks.....like some other choices out there, you might give these a try.

I wear Icon Super Duty 3 boots. I was worried at first because of the general look of the boot, making me think it was just a hiking boot. After wearing these commuting 5 days a week I I'm completely sold on these boots! Great fit, nice and snug. I sometimes forget to change to my work shoes because of how comfortable they are and no one seems to notice the look.



I wouldn't mind a pair of the Sidi Way Rain boots for the wet weather though...

 

I like having the protection of the Sidi Vertigo Corsas but as someone said a bit squeaky (therefore, I save them for the track because the sole wears so fast) so a few years ago I tried the Gaerne (the Shockwave boot is great if you can still find them) brand of boots (Italian) which are much like the Sidi's and Alpinestars but much more comfortable on my clothing reps recommendation and she was right they are the most comfortable boots for riding I own. I wear them to work and change to a pair of Merrell Jungle Mocs I keep at work. Lots of good recommendations in this thread. I guess it just comes down to what you want and most importantly what feels the most comfortable and provides the level of protection you are looking for.

 

I got a pair of HD lace up boots a couple of years ago that work great for casual riding and going to work. They are like the Puma work boots mentioned here already. They are extremely comfortable for walking, they are all leather and once broken in are very flexible (good for comfort, not so good for protection). My regular riding boots are First Gear made by Sidi. Let's see, looks like "made by Sidi" is all over this thread.

the best boots Ive had no riding specific boots tho
but thick heavy leather tall !!!!! padded tops rubber coated steel toe don't scuff from shifter..

nice soles slip way less than any other boots Ive worn even on oil
very durable absolute abuse( i go through the cheap "tacticals" in like 4 months) for 2 years still wearable
work great in welding or machining or riding for me but not a serious riding/ racing boot
comfy for me but are heavy think they weighed almost 1.5-2 lbs each (sz 12)

only con is they didn't reach my interceptor vf750 shift and brake due to toe height (i hit clutch cover/stator cover )

guess ill ride the Sabre for a while no insurance anyway on interceptor yet anyway
