This point is not moot. I brought this out in a prior post on the Palin thread. I used actual tax tables from the IRS to determine these numbers...

A married man with 2 dependents who makes 400 dollars a week will have 12 dollars withheld from his check for federal taxes. (3% withholding.)

A married man with 2 dependents who makes 1200 dollars a week will have 123 dollars withheld from his check for federal taxes. (10.25% withholding).

This means, the "rich guy" makes 3 times as much as the "poor guy." But, the "rich guy" pays 10 times more in taxes (in actual dollars) than the "poor guy".

If you want fairness in the tax system, each guy should be taxed at the same percentage. The tax system is set up as a Progressive system where people who make more money pay a larger percentage. This is the way it is now and the way it has always been.

The Democrats and the unions have been able to perpetuate a myth that has no basis in fact that the "poor guy" pays all of the taxes and that the "rich guy" is getting richer on the backs of the "poor guy."

If you are so interested in fairness, why don't you start paying at the same percentage rate as the general surgeon that works down the hall from me?

Charitable donations are bad because: As we all know, all "extra" income is to be surrendered to the government for "redistribution" as they see fit (after they keep their cut). Com'on DrBob, you know we are too stupid to pick a charity to donate to. We don't have the skills needed to spend our money, much less give it away.
Just think, with The Obama as pres, we won't have to do ANYTHING!!! We won't have to pick a charity, worry about terrorists, pick a car (The Obama will give a Prius to everybody), all the death row inmates will be safely tucked away in their cots while watching satellite TV, Women and even teen girls can have an abortion any time they want. The whole world will come together and live in peace forever. We won't have to worry about success or failure. Everything will be fair and equal. It would be stupid to do a good job at work and get a raise...oh wait, we won't need jobs. The Obama will tax the rich and give the money to us, poor pitiful us. And just to think, we were doing all this ourselves. What were we thinking?? The Obama will spoon-feed all we need. Of course, that is all we will have, only what The Obama thinks we need. He will take everything he doesn't think is necessary and give it to someone else. WOW!!! It'll be GREAT!!! We'll all be the same!!! I can't wait.

In my opinion, you have been conditioned to believe that anything from a pro-Obama perspective is written by a like-minded, highly intellectual individual who has seen the light. On the other hand, you guys have also been conditioned to believe that anyone who disagrees with Obama must be a racist knuckle-dragger who lacks the intellectual capacities to understand the Magnanimous Obama.

I am a conservative. That means, I am against liberalism. I do not care who the standard-bearer for the liberal movement is. I do not care if he is black or white. I don't care if the purveyor of liberal thought is a man or a woman.

This isn't talking poilitics, it's a couple guys with the same sociological issue, regurgitating stuff from o'reilly, limbaugh, and anything from fox news. Once again, you MUST be kidding. Who is going to pay your salary if The Obama taxes the higher income people into the poor house. Why would anyone stick their neck out, mortgage their house, put up with govt regulations to start a business, if The Obama is just going to take their proffits? No matter what CNN tells you, the upper income people pay more in taxes than you could ever imagine. All you have to do is get a tax form, make believe that you are one of the evil rich people, then fill in the blanks. You'll be shocked to find out how much you'd have to pay. Believe it or not, it is possible to make more money without having to take it away from someone else. Wealth is created, not stolen. If you want to pay less in taxes, just work less, make less money. If you don't work at all, not only will you pay no taxes at all, but you'll get a check, a nice govt paid-for apartment, and food stamps. Have a few kids and the welfare just comes rolling in. Now, where in all this does the rich pay less? Don't be mad at someone just because they earn more than you.

Fact is, from personal experience, the vast majority of the people on social programs are there because they want to be there. We interviewed (and used) a babysitter 2 blocks away from us. She lives in a nice colonial, WELL furnished, and two nice newer (05 & 07) vehicles. After a month or two of using her and getting to know her we found out all three of her kids are from different baby daddies, her deadbeat boyfriend just lounges around the house being jobless, and she is on welfare, food program, health and dental, and gets a big refund at the end of the year from our lovely government. The bitch lives better than I do and I work my balls off and so does my wife. She owns the house and both cars! It makes me sick to see these 350lb slobs on welfare, that I HAVE TO FEED, scream they need a "hand up". BULLSHIT!
Thats the kind of thing we're in for. There is so much white guilt in this country, and especially the government, that as soon as Obama asks for anything, they will trip over each other to approve it so they don't get branded a racist.

Taxes should be used ONLY for vital services. Like Police, Firefighters, Military, Roads etc. Not to promote or deny any legal activity!! So called "Sin Taxes" (tobacco, alcohol etc) have no place in our tax code. If it is so bad, make it illegal. But, since it would never get past the voters, our govt just taxes it to death. Our tax code is designed to allow the govt to control us without having to pass an unpopular law. Now that's a bunch of :bs:

 

I like how I get taxed on my income, I then get taxed if I buy gas, food, or anything else. Then I get taxed if I earn money on the money I have saved or invested.
