    Just would like to know:
    1. possibilities?
    2. where to start looking?

    '93 w/ 23k
start button worked sometimes, needed to be pressed more than once sometimes.
After having the forks/springs replaced and servcied start button never works.

to start bike now I have to jump the relay w/ a screwdriver.
No clicking sound when start button depressed.

All other electrical components work. Newer battery, r/r fine, holds voltage and reads 14.5v under acceleration.

Performed leak test with light tester. Doesnt appear to be a short anywhere.

Any ideas on what to look at/for or where to start?
    Thanks.

unplug coupler from right hand switches and test "start" button with ohm meter.

test starter relay coil by checking for continuity across the contacts. if no continuity, replace.

if relay clicks but won't power starter, replace starter relay.

    Thanks Squirrelman.

    3 questions though... (really 4)

    1. Unplug coupler? Is that the 2 little wires that come out of the housing and plug in under the brake resevior?
When using Voltometer testing in Ohm mode, what should reading be?

    2. I really know squat when it comes to electrics...
continuity across contacts? what should meter read w/ or without continuity?

    3. I assume both these tests should be done with either the bike running or with ignition key in the ON position?

    Thanks

Test switch continuity with a Volt/ohm meter set to Ohm (lowest setting). Find the two contacts (picture one in, the other as out) and measure the resistance, then press the button and measue while holding it down. You should see an open reading when not pressed (same reading as not connected) and it should be very close to zero resistance when depressed). Do this with the bike off.

If the switch passes, next check if the Starter Relay is getting power and signal. The Starter Relay plug commonly melts and causes problems.

If you can jump the two big terminals to start the bike, the starter and battery are good.

You may want to take the starter button apart and clean it very well. Some people use WD40 as contact cleaner. I usually just use a wire brush.

better be qualified as a neurosurgeon....
cuz those wires and stuff are very delicate and can easily be damaged
