I watched a couple episodes of superbike last night and im just curious to ask. What is everyones opinion about people that do bike stunts professionally?

Not the squids that ride through down town on a half a wheel, but the people who do it in shows in controlled environments. Places like the sport bike park in France and blocked off parking lots for specific corporate funded events. People that get paid to do it, not people who want to show off.

It's not my cup of tea. But, in a controlled enviroment, I have no problem with it. The problem for me (and all sportbike riders) is that we get tabbed as all of the same because the "fans" of stunting might watch these pros in a controlled enviroment....but they seem to practice what they see, and they practice in a non-controlled enviroment...the street.

Jason from Superbikes says all the right things. He's an advocate for protective gear( he's paid to from Icon:rolleyes: ).

I watch the show basically because it has some nice looking bikes. But, I don't really get going to a show to only watch stunting. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the skill it takes to do those tricks. I know I couldn't do it....nor would I want to.

I went to the Indy MotoGP this year. Between some of the racing, there were some stunt riders out on the track. So the real question is......Am I forced to watch Superbikes because I'll watch anything that has a sportbike on it? Even shows with activities that I'm not an advocate for. Like stunting. Or am I programmed to like ANYTHING that has a bike on it? Like what MotoGP assumed I was going to enjoy; even though I see no correlation between sanctioned motorcycle racing and "riding" a ZX-6 with a bashed-in tank and a 65 tooth rear sprocket.

    *steps down from soapbox*

Not a big fan of "Super bikes" as it is not just the stunting it is also about that"culture" or the squid culture. He says all the right things then goes and showcases a bike club full of people stunting on the road and other squidly acts and shows them.

As for pro stunters...way to go, i know some of the teams have very strickt rules. If they get so much as a speeding ticket they are off the team, nevermind a stunting ticket.

I feel super bikes promots this behavour and overly apeals to squids, while also tarnishing the sport rider image when we try and present ourselves as safe and responsible some one could easily point to the show.

The number of new sportbike riders who want to stunt/pose vs ride the track is probably 5-1 hence the Superbike show focus. That being said, pro's are great, Squidworth sucks!

I like Patrick more than Squidworth on SpongeBob Square Pants. I've never seen motorcycle stunts on the show, just boat driving lessons.

It would be fun to have your MSF instructors come up with your own SBSP script... but I digress.

I like shows that promote motorcycling, I think the pro stunting is fun to watch... just like the drifting, and Ringling Brothers cycle on a high wire, or the BOSS team that performs at the US Cycle shows.

I agree that Jason *says* the right stuff, but shows bad behavior on his show... actions speak louder than words. I'd rather see a half hour of MotoGP qualifing, or AMA dirt track than Superbikes, but sponsors pay the bills and Icon rules the squid/stunt market apparell angle from what I see.

Ok you losers... It's Squidward! My stepson corrected me for saying it wrong. I am so uncool now (although he's moving into a new phase where he won't watch kid shows anymore) Meet the Characters

Anyway, I like my icon jacket. Guess I'm a squid... hehe. We already knew that, though.

I like and hate the show.... I think nozzel "Hit the Nail on the Head" when he says "Actions speak louder than words.." TYhere is a gorup of "Squids" who meat out in front of the office where I work because our office is on a long sweeping dead end road with a nice 1/4 mile straight that they can wheelie and performdonuts on their GSXrs and Busa's...

I went out one evening as I was working late introduced myself to observe the action while I was on my VFR... The common theme was "Dude are'nt you hot in all that gear?" (As I wear all Gear.) and I mentioned my allergy to wire brushes and they had no idea what I was talking about....

I watched an R6 wheelie and blow a motoer in the middle of it and toss the kid ass over tea kettle.... The rest of the gorup was laughing is this kid is chocking back his tears trying to get his cell phone that was in his back pocket to work and call his buddy with a truck... He had a helmet, jeans, and a t-shirt... had scrapes bruises on his back and he jeans were ripped on his knees... I gave him my cell phone to call whoever he needed and recomended he get his injuries looked at...

When I watch superbikes I see the same people that I saw... they go to some sport bike show and I have never once seen them interview a group of guys who have all the gear on... (Then again I do not watch it very often) Usually you are guarenteed to see a bunch of guys going real slow on this big main street with scantilly clad women on the back... Then Jason does a his thing or tries to do something...

Just once I would love to see Jason get on a nice bike full gear and ride a real nice road with a group... While I bet he can wheelie and stoppie I wonder how long his ass could sit on a bike for a nice long ride....

I like the show. I am happy that the show is about people actually riding bikes rather than just yelling back and forth while trying to assemble, er...build, a bike. I am constantly amazed at the skill level of those guys and the tricks are just cool, plain and simple. Not the kind of riding I want to do but I enjoy watching it. Sure some morons are going to try to do that stuff on the street - but they would be doing stupid stuff no matter if the show was on or not.

I got to meet Jason at the MotoGp in Indy - pure luck, right place at the right time type of thing. My wife and I talked with him for 4 or 5 minutes. He was just relaxing, enjoying the races. Real good, down-to-earth guy. Pretty much what you see on the show is what you get.

Problem I have with the "stuntin" choads is that everytime I get out on one of my Ducatis or on the VFR I just got I get followed by every city cop around here. The main reason is those "Star Boyz" fruits doing mach VI on the highway I live near on the back wheel while weaving in and out of rush hour traffic. Granted, I don't do the speed limit, but who does? I keep it around 75 and stay in my lane. I want to get where I'm going in one piece. They give all "sportbike" type riders a bad rep and its really annoying.

Super, icon is the name of a moto gear manufacturer. It seems they are preferred among stunters who choose to wear gear. They sponsor the show Superbikes.

    Stunting in controlled environments= ok

    Stunting on public streets= bad

Televised stunting in controlled environs=stunting on public streets (but they were going to do it anyway)

And I agree with Nozzle, I'd really rather see MotoGP qualifying or SBK superpole rather than stunters doing their thang!

That's how I feel about the stunting too. I know some fellow bikers who are really into stunting and I watched some stunt videos with them. After a while it got a little old, wheelie, stoppie, burnout, etc... I'm actually more impressed with the european stunters because they do backflips and other acrobatic feats.

Funny you say that, I had the same thought cross through my head when I first posted in this thread. I had my moments, I'm sure others have too.
