Could anyone tell me what might be the problem if my bike will only run with the choke full on unless I rev it hard it won't die then.

Plugged fuel filter or dirty pilot jets would be my first guesses.

Don't know if you've resolved this yet but have you adjusted the idle screw at all? It's just inside the fairing by left knee. Mine was idling poorly this Spring...lil twist....idles like a champ!

    Good luck!

Vacuum leak. Mine did this a couple years ago, then decided it was close enough for the 32K service too, So killed two birds in one throw, on the matter of it not running well with out choke seems on mine the little rubber plug that covers the the port for the sync of the carbs was missing, so once a plug was back on wa'La everything was fine.

since this is the same basic topic i dont guess it qualifies as a hijack... :)

got a '84 750 that i just got this weekend. at first, it would not idle at all unless the choke was on full. I've tinkered with it here and there. I removed the tank and rinsed it out.... the gas that was in it was at least 2 years old. i imagine that the carbs need to removed, cleaned and synch'd.... but with barely 1/4 of a tank of premium run through it, it is now idling with about 1/2 choke and will run with the choke off so long as i keep the throttle on. once it drops below 2000 rpm with the choke off, the engine stalls out.

it will run fine with the choke on half, fires up every time. when pulling off there is a very noticable surge. when dragging the clutch the engine surges say, between 2500-3500 rpm until the clutch is fully engaged. the power is also way off. once over 4000 rpm, it runs good. the first night it wouldnt run past 8500 rpm, but now will pull decently up to 10,000-ish.

Of note is when it's idling with the choke and when i'm holding the throttle open with the choke off, there is an audible sucking. not usre if it is a vaccum leak or just the air pulling through the carbs. where can i find the synchronizing ports, and can they be located without removing the tank and airbox?

besides seafoam (which is what i plan to run once i run the tank down and get the new petcock in) any other ideas.

    thanks. :)
