Hi ,my name is Shawn ,I am new to these forums. I am a service writer at a honda dealer and I have a question. I dont know much about these bikes and I have a customer that needs a new engine for his 2002 VFR 800.I'm trying to find out which 800 engines fit that year. Any info would be great.

    Are you serious?

2002 is the 6th generation which spans 2002 - present day. As I am a 5th generation owner, I am not sure what running changes were made during this time frame that would prevent an engine exchange from one model year to another.

I would presume this is one of the reasons the owner came to the dealer and, not to be rude, but if my dealer were asking questions such as this on a forum, I would probably run out of there as fast as I could.

Sorry there was a typo, I know there are different engines. But honda's "Techline" themselves could not answer my question to which year vfr800 engines will fit or if all 800's will fit the 02' . Im just being honest here, and noone that I have talked to (outside of my dealer) can answer my question so I came here referred to by several people.

The owner came to us with his bike apart and had other "hands" in it already, im just trying to help the guy out.He has no idea or resources to fix his bike.

I am pretty sure only the 2002 to present engines will fit. The frame, electronics, etc. are all different. Good luck.

While I do find this question disconcerting, I can certainly see how situations like this arise as they do in my job often. Sometimes the info isn't in the manual and only one person in the company can answer your question and you have to look high and low to find them.

Engines should be interchangeable within the generations, this one being 6th.

    02 Engine swap

Shawn, I would tend to agree that 6th Gen engines "should" be compatible. If you are at a dealership, browse through the 2002 service manual. I purchased a service manual from Honda for my 02 VFR, and it clearly states all service and maintenance procedures are consistent for model year(s) 2002 - 2005. This may be due to date of publication, but a good indicator that 6th generation components are interchangeable. -Good Luck
