This might be a weird one. I have an 04 6th generation. If I sustain 4700-5000 RPMs I notice some hesitation in the motor, kind of like cutting out. This doesnt happen while reving or hard riding, but only if I am cruising along at a sustained RPM. What do you think that is? My thoughts are either plugs or fuel filter (if there is one) externaly. I bought this bike used with 6800 miles on it, it currently has 8000 miles on it. Some other info I use 89 octane gas most of the time (not the lowest or the highest).

I must have read your post incorrectly, my apologies. start with the easy things change air filter and spark plugs to see if it makes a difference

Any certain gear? My '04 cruises at that rpm, and I've noticed nada. Mine is 2 years out of crate old with 3200 miles.

Have you done the update? The wiring harness? Just get it done, or check on it.

I have an 2004 and it does the same thing at around the same RPM's I was told it has to do with the O2 sensor, my hubby is going to try some fixes over the winter to see if it gets any better.

It is an FI mapping issue associated with the emissions loop.
