If you are talking suspension and handling the '84 doesnt compare. Your talking 5 & 6 generations of technology. Get a ride on one - it will be an eye opener.

each generation of the VFR from what I have read refined the original. So what you would most likely notice if you were to ride them all is that everything got smoother. for example, if you ride in a classic mustang, it has character but it rattles here and there. Takes off a little slower and stops take a little longer. It doesn't quite handle like a new one, etc. Now this is all theory on my part and I have no hard data to back it up. I have just read the reviews and the VFR really became a magazine editor favorite (I think) around the 3rd gen, then just got better for the 4th and 5th. The debate still rages on with the 6th as a lot of old-timers were used to more improvements, and they didn't change much except something that a lot of people had come to love (the gear driven cams). anyway, I realize this isn't much help, but that's my take on it.

Suspension wise, no contest. Even with the upgrades I've done, it is still a pig. Motor wise, mine will probably leave a stock VFR for dead, not sure about a modded one. Mine is very comfortable running well into triple digit speeds with indicated 120mph to 160ish (not at top end yet) acceleration being pretty exhilarating. All in all, not bad for a dinosaur!
