I have a 97 VFR. I have started to notice that it make a clicking sound, which seems to be coming from the engine area, when I take off. It is noticeable in 1st gear. Not for sure about the others.

Could use some help on this, as I am readying the bike for a local track day at Barber.

    Thanks VFRers

Do you hear this more after a ride or when you first head out? I'm thinking chain here, maybe not, but if the links are binding as they round the counter shaft sprocket they will make a pop or something like a rattle, guess it good be a clinking too. I'd start there. If not then pay close attention where it actually seems to be coming from, could be a lose valve but that's rare. Could be something lose too, like a mount or? yea not much help am I.. lots of little things to check, why I say you'll need to get a better idea where its coming from and when.

The clicking/clinking could be the chain, it does not happen when the engine is rev'd up. And it happens when I start out and after I have been riding for a while.

I will listen closer to see if the location can be pinpointed better. And post an update.

Mine has a slight tick at idle....and so do alot of others here on the forum. I have been told its normal. Although I am due for a valve clearance check though.

chain tension is the first place to look...way too loose will click, and way too tight might click too.

    kinks?
    cush drive?
