I may have the opportunity to purchase one of these two bikes. Both are in mint condition for about the same price and same miles.

Which one would you guys recommend?

    VF1000R vs Vf1000F

    To be exact.

The R has the better engine. The F had the cam oiling problems and was chain driven cams, as opposed to the gear driven in the R model.

    My 2 cents worth.

Thanks for the reply. I just spoke with the owner and found out the R was sold so now he only has the VF1000F for sale. Not sure I want to take a chance on a bike that will most likely have the camshaft oiling issue (not the the R would not have as well).

Of all the liter V4 bikes the VF1000 was the lightest at 516 lbs. I'm torn between picking up a classic V4 or getting something newer & fuel injected.

Just get it (cheap as possible) and have the upper end oiling kit put on. asK Jamie Daugherty about the kit.

I'm not going to bother with buying a bike that needs to have an oiling system added. To me that would be a flawed design and why would I want to deal with that? I've decided to wait a while longer and find a newer VFR without inherent issues.
