Keep that kill switch hand at the ready!! (I hope the throttle doesn't stick, like the clutch does)

If the clutch isn't working how did you manage this ride around the neighborhood? My clutch grabs a little when starting it in first, even with the clutch in. I usually shift into neutral to make it easier on the starter, warm it up a bit then shift into first and go. So was the clutch working and now it doesn't? I'm confused..

Well at first the clutch was not sticking; that is when I rode it. I came back from a trip out of town and tried to start it up and when I went to put it in first gear it would just die. I had to put the bike in the shop to get a new set of tires, chain, and a sprocket. When I got the bike back the guy had said the plates were sticking (Just as squirrelman, eddievalleytrailer, and seidts had mentioned in previous posts.) I put some dot4 in the reservior and it managed to make it in first gear. I took it on a ride and they loosened up quickly. Every since then they have been perfect. Now the only problem is the front brake pads are so tight that it rubs and i am unable to figure out how to loosen them with out removing the caliper itself, and it sometimes dies between 0 and 1 Rpm. Any suggestions?

Fluid is always a good way to get the clutch to work. lol

Anyways, does anybody no of a free manual I can download, for 86-87 ???
Or can anyone tell me how to bench test my voltage regulator / rectifier ???
I've found this info for every year except for mine (of course).
I need to verify that the next one I buy isn't shot too.
    Thanks for any help.

Ahh ok. I was just reading about that on another thread. They didn't get to the remedy other than probably rebuilding the clutch... I'd concur that that's what it sounds like plates sticking together... You got a beautiful ride there. As far as the breaks go.. I'd think it's a stuck piston and removing the caliper is the way to go. But I have limited experience w/ that kind of thing.. I have a Clymer's manual but I'd love to get a PDF of it.. if someone has one please share.. Thanks..

your calipers probably need rebuilding (cleaning and new seals) if the pads drag alot.

This one is Titled "Black Tears"(Don't Worry I Cleaned the "Oil Spill") Thanks for the help guys. I will definitely get those rubbing pads fixed asap, I hate the dragging sound.

I also just recently purchased a 1986 VFR750. Just took it on a trip and had some trouble with fuel tank. I got what it call vapor lock and the bike would just die going down the road. The tank cap was very hard to get open and then the tank would expand out as I got it opened.

Do I have a bad gas cap or could this also be an electrical problem?

    Thanks

Check the underside of the fuel cap. Does it have a black plastic thingy on it? The "thingy" is a vent. It can get clogged. Shoot WD down the key hole until it runs out the vent.

If you don't have the black plastic thingy and you don't have a California bike, then your tank won't vent and will die from lack of gas.

Either get a vented gas cap or do what I did:

    - Slide back the keyhole cover and drill a small hole where it will be hidden by the cover.
    - Drill a hole into the underside end of the cap.

The tank will vent through the hole and the keyhole cover will keep rain out of the hole.
