So, 2 months after purchasing a $200 tire metzler @ the honda dealership, I wake up to a flat....Looks like a small slit, right in the middle of the tread pattern...What is the best tire patch/plug for the VFR? Will someone do a write up, or at least give me some advice...I know its not a good idea to do this, but the season is almost over, I am not planning on going 100mph and I want to get in a couple more rides before I have to replace the front tire..and most likely the rear as well...any advice will be appreciated...thanks in advance...

If it's a small hole like a screw or nail you can plug it. If it's a slit as you say then you would have to patch it from the inside. IMO I would toss a tire with a slit because it will probably only get bigger.

Yeah, you have to be careful with slits (haha...that has more than one meaning). IF it is small enough, a patch from the inside might be ok. Usually, if the puncture is more than a nail/screwhole, I think it should be replaced. Most dealerships will not patch a tire....liability reasons.

Being a cheap bastard I have plugged a few tires, but if its a slit, I'm afraid that the tire is toast.

Looks like almost a 1/2 inch long slit...guess its better to see her with a flat than crash her trying to save a little money..any recomendations on the tire plugs?? I have to get the tire up to take it to the dealership...almost 45 miles for me to get to anything that says HONDA on the sign...

I would replace it if it has a 1/2 inch slit....too much possibilty that that slit could really rupture under pressure.

Are you talking about tire plugs just to ride her to the dealership? I have a thread on tire plugs, do a search and you will find it I am sure. Genuine Innovations I think the company is. I know it is 45 miles, but if I was you, I would take it off the bike, and take it in to them in your car/truck.

My advice is to bite the bullet and get some new kicks for your bike now or park it till next season. a plug or patch in a tire is an acceptible temporary fix if you are on a trip but you have to think if that $300 is worth totaling your bike, getting hurt, and maybe getting a passenger hurt or killed. especily if you ride agresivly.
