I have a 1995 vfr 750. While it's running I can hear a ticking noise in the engine area. I am an ASE certified mechanic so I do know a bit about motors. I thought it might be the valves out of adjustment but I just got done checking that and they are perfect. .006" on the intake and .010" on the exhaust. So now comes the confusion, where is that ticking noise coming from? Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas?
That is a common sound that is related to the cams. There is a fix to it but it does not need to be done and my 94 has the same sound as yours. One of the brighter bulbs on this site will clue you in with more detail.
This was discussed in a previous thread.."4th gen ticking noise" http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/16795-4th-gen-ticking-noise.html It is a slight movement in the camshafts. The article scan has a much better explanation.
